Im taking a short break after finishing episode 2.
The Premise
The premise is good. Right now, these folks and pretty much the entire public is being kept in the dark about this virus/infection/zombie thing. Perhaps even the higher ups do not know. The cops are even scared, after seeing that they cannot easily bring these zeds down. Right now, there are not enough zeds to make it an apocalypse, but you can feel it coming. I like this backstory, and also the fact that it has been mentioned that 5 other states were experiencing similar incidents.
The Setting
THIS is why I can watch this show. I am a city boy. I live in Redondo Beach now, but I have grown up with a city view since I was a kid and seeing buildings, streets and a large city allows me to connect with this much easier than I could The Walking Dead. There are not going to be any dumb farms, and there is going to be the opportunity to see how this plays out in a real large city. I needed to see freeways, neighborhoods, skyscrapers in the distance, and lots of people. The panic factor of people turning in a city seems more horrifying than herds of zeds chasing people across corn fields. It's SCARIER to me.
The Characters
I do not like these characters as an ensemble. I do not care about Alicia (the daughter) or Nick (the junkie). I cannot even remember the names of the mother and the father. I do not like the disconnected communication between the characters. I also can see how easy it will be in this show to kill off EVERY current character t replace them with new ones later. In this, they could easily do it because nobody has "picked" a Rick Grimes and stuck a badge on him. These folks are just plain everyday Angelenos (people from LA). I could see new characters coming into it and these dying off or being killed. EASILY.
The Pacing
Meh, a tad slow, but not excruciatingly slow like on The Walking Dead. There is stupidity. The mother gets too close to the grunting, blood dripping zeds and she has almost got bitten TWICE. I mean, did she really go up to the Principal and try to tell him he would be alright, even though it is obvious he has turned into a zombie? Calvin almost got her in the tunnel. I hope she gets eaten first. She is the Lori of this show.
These are INITIAL IMPRESSIONS after watching the first two episodes fully through. These impressions are subject to change, and although I like it so far, it could change as quickly as a person turning to a zed.

Back for Episode 3!
