Apologies for the typo. The thread title should read: Fear the Walking Dead. At any rate, the spin-off from AMC's The Walking Dead premieres tonight. I'm sure that you, gentle reader, are (like moi) as moist as a snack cake in anticipation of experiencing this cinematic masterpiece. It's sure to be an evolutionary change in television viewing experiences.

That said, it sounds like this spin-off is going to be as much of a post-apocalyptic drag as its progenitor is. This comes as no surprise to any of us here, but if it turns out to be anything like the Forbes review then it is truly disappointing. I admit to being perpetually optimistic that the producers of interesting premises, like a zombie apocalypse, will learn from their mistakes in past productions and take steps to correct them the next time out. But from what I gather from the review of the pilot of FtWD they haven't learned a damn thing. I honestly hope the reviewer of the pilot s wrong because I truly want an interesting, exciting story to sink my teeth into. So, naive fool that I am, I will get my hopes up and tune into the pilot tonight. Wish me luck. ;)

Check out the Forbes review below. Don't worry, there aren't any spoilers, unless of course you call pointing out that nothing much happens in the first hour except for giving some annoying, whining teens the spotlight a "spoiler", then yeah, the show will be ruined for you. :P

What, did you actually think they would create a decently paced show? Or not take us into every crevice of every part of the mental makeup of every person?

OMG, this show is worse than I imagined it would be. It's bad. Seriously bad. And I don't mean that it's a fun kind of bad. It's just plain bad bad. :jaded:

Did you catch this one JL? I'm still processing how bad it was. I think the writers really made a mistake in trying to tell this origin story via the perspective of a really lame family. Don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with giving us an "every man's" viewpoint, but the characters they chose to use are unsympathetic and downright repellent.

There are a lot of problems with this show but they are too many to list right now. I'm talking everything from cheap production values to bad direction to bad, cringe-worthy writing to sub-par acting. Big surprise, huh?

The entire concept is a REALLY bad idea. A much better idea would have been to show a group that quickly learns to cooperate, sets up a secure area pretty easily and watch them grow and expand. Have characters you can root for. In other words the mirror image of the current sorry sods.

The premiere episode for FtWD was 1.5 hours longs. The first hour was devoted to hand-wringing over the heroin addicted teen son. So basically one of the main characters that we are supposed to root for is a junkie.

Yes -- it's that bad. :disturbed:

OMG this premiere was bad! When I heard the Romero-era style horror music score throughout it gave me hope but nothing happened until the last 5-10 minutes of the show. Wtf?!?

Maybe somebody has the whole production executive department locked in the break room at gunpoint and the half-wasted writers are forcing them to rubber stamp the show under fear of death? This première was worse than bad. It was so bad I could not even laugh at it!

I tried to watch it in the middle of the day (Monday afternoon rerun) and it put me to sleep twice...

all I remember is half naked girl-zombie with a pipe through her and then a black guy zombie getting run over, repeatedly (wait! was that the beginning and end?)

and just a side-how is it that some hot chic girl "goes zombie" whilst partying?

They have to die first. we know that. and reanimation time varies

so just what kind of party is it that causes a girl to get half naked, then die (the pipe through her?) and then...

    over all, just zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

i would rather have seen a show where we get it from the govt's viewpoint--it could be called "Govern the Walking Dead"

I want to see how things went for middle class people and above. Like, the people living in the big cities, the suburbs and such. Places with freeways and skyscrapers and where there is no room for farm houses. Im so done with the rural flavor of TWD. Those folks would have things relatively easy compared to those living in the cities. Something more on the level of "Night of the Living Dead".

I was fooled by the Romero-esque music throughout the show. Just when you think something was about to happen ... nothing. Nothing at all happened until the last 10 minutes. An hour and a half of nothing happening til the last 10 minutes and even that was anticlimactic.

Seinfeld had a comedy about nothing and that had me laughing right to the very end.

This show is a melodrama about nothing. Imagine that. If you remember the show "Thirtysomething" then you'll understand when I say this show is even more boring with way less happening.

one would think that with all of the bureaucracy of a big city, that they would be able to react to such an occurrence much more effectively then a rural area

thats why I don't get why Atlanta was shown as falling to the walkers so quickly--has made me wonder if the "napalm" attack we saw -from the perspective of our ppl on the hwy-ended up as a friendly fire incident in which organized police/army got whacked by mistake

cant see how a big city falls any other way--this show's mythos has it that one must die (and be dead for awhile) before they return, don't see how they can get that out of control with that kind of 'rule' in effect

sure, there is a 'learning curve' but once that is found out and disseminated, the walkers wouldn't have a chance

No worries. Truth is I wasn't sure that it would last as a thread title. :icon_lol: If you want to totally change it to "Fear the Walking Dead" I have no problems with that.

I'm still trying to figure out how this particular story got approved as the vehicle for the show. I mean, a teenage junkie replete with annoying teen sister, soccer mom from hell and D-bag "step dad" (aka Mom's live-in bf)? Who thought that would be a good idea?

Fact is, I don't give a sht that they are a "blended" family despite the media trying to claim that that's a big deal (it's not). The fact is they are incredibly boring and tedious and lame and moronic and unsympathetic and unlikable and gross and disgusting. They aren't protagonists. They are just...nothing.

My biggest gripe about the show is that I know -- I just know -- that the members of this annoying family will not be killed off. Certainly not as quickly as they should be, sigh... :moody:

That's probably the saddest thing about this stupid show -- it's so bad it doesn't even provide us with a laugh.
