Why Z Nation is better than The Walking Dead

I barely remember that episode to be honest. Keep in mind you're referencing an episode from a show over 20 years ago. So my issue is with what is now a tired, worn out writing gimmick.

Wow...using expired tropes can be dangerous to the health of a TV show! And there is another dangerous trope being developed...the zombie/human hybrid baby? They will not be able to trope the baby unless they come up with something magical to make it age rapidly and be full grown in time to mess things up for everyone a couple episodes later. :)

I like this show and where it's headed so far. Sure, there's gonna be some nitpicking here and there because you can't please everyone all the time but, you have to admit, a show that doesn't take itself too seriously like this is refreshing and some of these tropes can be forgiven in that context. :)

It has to have magic powers and its hair has to blow around whenever it uses its magic powers. ;)

Look at how they are playing the baby though - it isn't even born and it is telling Mommy where to go look for Daddy. I get the feeling they are gearing up to lampoon the "miracle baby" trope. Much like in the season opener they lampooned the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull "nuking the fridge" scene.

I definitely don't hate this show specifically because it doesn't take itself too seriously. I can overlook the "dream sequence" episode pretty easily. My only gripe is that I wish the producers would use the budgets from filler episodes and apply them towards more meaty episodes in order to amp up the FX, etc.

We know it already understands English and can hear things through it's mother's uterus. :) We know it can "sense" it's daddy even hundreds of miles away, so yeah...there is a little hocus pocus going on here. :icon10:

I like the way they did Zimmerman. :)

It was funny, and it was what would have actually happened to Indiana Jones too.

As to the baby, given the somewhat sick sense of humor we have seen so far I want to see how they play it.

This show manages to prepare me for almost anything. Who would have thought "viagra zombies on meth"? I was slightly stoned during that episode and I could not stop laughing. They did not even show it, but the way they were passing the binoculars around and shaking their heads...by the time the reason was revealed I was guffawing.

Like we have been saying the somewhat twisted humor is an essential part of it - and something badly needed in both TWD series. Do you think TWD would have had a character trapped in a shaft with a zed light up a doob - and share it with the zed?

That's why I like this show -- they're honest about it being tongue-in-cheek. The writers are clearly having fun with the zombie genre. This approach is a refreshing antidote to the overwrought melodrama of TWD. Amazing that it comes from SyFy of all places.

Doc in the airshaft is one of the best funny scenes from season 1 . It is so obvious he is gonna light one up but watching him have a conversation with the zombie is too funny . Doc is a great character as are the rest ...

I also give the asylum a huge thunbs up for this show because evrything else that they may have attempted has been utter garbage . Nice to see them finally doing something super entertaining .

It seems this time the Asylum (usually the home of horrific "mockbusters") went out and got a quality showrunner - Craig Engler. They also got Kari Schaefer who did a lot of the behind the scenes work on Eureka. And it shows.

I think you are onto something here. :) They HAVE been doing spoofs on issues we face in RL. They HAVE been mocking tropes. The Zimmerman thing was all about George Zimmerman (have you ever heard him speak?). The baby thing was so rushed and intentionally funny (with the woman licking his bites and such before sex). The baby will probably be born and do it's thing in the show and be gone in an episode or two. Just to play the trope. Cassandra cracks me up in her white outfit. She is soooooo funny. Her lines from now on will consist of grunts and growls and hollers.
