do we really have to go back and watch BSG and CAPRICA to see what Graybrew is talking about? "plossible"-funny!

TBH, I half thought you would totally disagree with me. You were always the "teach" in this area. I simply stated my opinion. I feel I was a fan of the show and watched it twice so I understand it a bit. Not to mention a few hundred posts on Syfy debating the merits of it.

Caprica was full of high tech They had amazingly advanced tech, it is also what ultimately destroyed them.
NuBSG did not have much of that tech. I never saw a holo-band or a paper thin laptop or any type of auto-bot. Yes. the Cylons were their enemies but they did not take over mind control ala Transformers from all the android butlers that I know oh.
By the time NuBSG ended they were ready and willing to give up all their tech..........I hated that part, but that is how they ended the show before they showed the ultimate merry-go-round of them being partly us getting ready to live the cycle over again.

My whole point was that B&C fell smack in the middle of when they were backing away from their tech, it did not surprise me that they would not have all the ultimate bells and whistles from Caprica days gone by. That was a full 10 years ago according to the clip.

I always thought the projectile weapons (barring nukes) were more magnetic rail gun in nature rather than chemically propelled slugs?

Joseph Adama should still be alive. If you remember from BSG-Lee Adama talks about his grandpa when Lee was a little kid. And that lawyer dude-the one who defends Baltar-was a clerk for Judge Joseph Adama. That guy was not very old so good guess would be he died not long before the setting of BSG.

Romo Lampkin and his cat worked as a clerk for Judge Joseph Adama. Good grief this is a test. Thank the gods or god that the actor plays a devil on Supernatural or I would never of been able to find him in less than an hour's time.

Welcome back! You haven't been seen very often on this side of the Fleet for some time.

Using Capro_Caine's brain, if I remember accurately Bekka Kelly is a computer specialist from Graystone Industries. She either specializes in bio-mechanical bodies or how about computer viruses?

My avatar speaks for itself.
Stupid fanboy perspective?! Well gee thanks for the warm welcome..makes me remember what I've been missing!:icon_e_surprised: And no, I found this by myself..you see I got an email telling me some silly fanboy/girl had made a new posting to the "who is responsible for the end of stargate' thread, talking about ditzy arguments:drunk:

But thanks Omni-your a heck of a guy/girl! So warm, fuzzy and friendly.

Just in the middle of ep #1. Not bad for a web series. One beef, though. Transparent aluminum is a reality today. Why would they be using glass view ports?
Are NASA or the Russians/chinese/japanese/british going to use it on their space vehicles? Reason for not retro-fitting the space shuttles with the trans alum is clear. will the benefit of transparent alum outweigh the costs?

thanks! I was having issues getting here for awhile-everytime i would try getting to the site it would take me to GODADDY'S register a site name page. Another time everything seemed 'locked up'--guess third time is a charm
If I remember right, when the BSG miniseries came out, SyFy wasn't exactly sure if they were going to go with the BSG series either (few ppl on here would have loved that)-remember they even showed the miniseries on the USA network and I think on the 'regular' NBC as well. It was like a lag of a year or so-I think-before the series came out. I was pretty confident that given the money spent on just this one movie-that someone was pushing for it to be seen on air or online. I just do not see how SyFy is making any money from things like the 'video deathmatch' or whatever show, and haunted collector and the other silly stuff they have on. Seems to me they are just about 'ripe' for a new science/space based -their roots-type of series by now. But who knows...

I would have to go back to watch CAPRICA the only other Graystone Ind ppl I remember are the young geek guy and the asian security dude. How about the commander? I know it has been said that he was cast just because he was available, but if a series were to develop, wouldn't it be a nice add if he was actually the detective who had to disappear after helping the Graystone's (after getting shot in the park)? Find a new life in the military type of thing. In BSG , it later became apparent that casting was done with future plotlines in mind (I am now putting on my old kevlar helmet and flak vest to be ready for all the attacks on RDM and his lack of planning, etc)--like the whole thing with Lee having blue eyes along with his dad, then the 'first' kid William not having blue eyes. And then the subtle things about starbuck and how Adama took her in--too old to be her lover--as a 'daughter' and not just because of the engagement-perhaps she reminded him of a love lost in the war? SO is CAPRO CAINE on here now? B4 he told me he just visited only

I would have to really dig to find it, but there was a brief scene when -I think it was Starbuck and Lee-were looking for a saboteur in the on-board munitions factory. It was after some viper main gun shells malfunctioned-the viper shells are like 25mm rds (like our real world vulcan or bradley rds), gun powder in 'brass' with a projo tip. Another was a deleted scene on one of the numerous BSG fan web sites, where it showed a store room for the main gun rds-the rds are exactly like 105mm artillery rds. Now I admit, they never say they are using gunpowder but they never said they weren't either.

At some point, costs will come under control as they refine the process. When it comes to space, though, NASA is not one to cut corners.

Thank you so much--have a beautiful day!

Don't mind grandpa. He's a cranky old man. His bayonet equipped shotgun had a dead muskrat stuck in the front horn and he couldn't shoot the neighbor in the ass from his porch as he does every morning.

Allow me to point out certain forum rules have been amended.

Harassment

3. Harassment occurs when a GateFans Forums user targets another individual to cause distress, embarrassment, unwanted attention, or other personal discomfort. GateFans does not condone harassment in any form. While you may disagree with someone’s point of view, personal attacks, or attacks based on a person’s race, national origin, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disablement, or other such affiliation are prohibited. If you have a disagreement with someone’s point of view, address the subject, not the person. This includes the discussion of TV or movie or audio media. Everybody likes what they like.

If a Member reports a post in Flame Hell which they say causes them personal discomfort or that they are targeted, it becomes a violation. This will not be abused, as Flame Hell by definition is where flaming is allowed. But crossing the line from flaming into harassment is obvious to us and will be dealt with. The Member MUST send a message stating that they feel harassed. The messages cited will be either edited or deleted.

Harassment can also consist in posting harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, or obscene content about individual GateFans members. This includes the posting of email addresses, street addresses, or phone numbers of individual GateFans members, which could expose you to civil liability as a violation of privacy.

Ofcourse, we're not in flame hell here.

And then there is the whole thing of gunpowder fueled projectiles in space--I am not even a 'beginner' in physics:nonchalance: but I have often read that as a criticism of shows like BSG and others....

Yes, very good point. I'm not physics/chemistry geek either but obviously there is a type of propellant that works in the vacuum of space as we've used rockets to get there and back (and I assume a similar method to realign space stations, etc.). I think I saw something on the Science channel once about how the propulsion effect works out there in space but I can't recall the exact details. I assume that missiles would work the same way, especially "smart" guided ones.

GateFan did make a good point about the rail gun weaponry which to me seems like mortar shelling. It's good for throwing up flack to intercept incoming projectiles and also for lobbing shells outwards, but obviously you wouldn't be able to guide those shells once out of the gun since there would be no propellant.

Hello guys I'm back after well, a few years and what not.

To help in the answering (this is only things I have dug up myself so don't take this as 100% fact), the use of firearms (or in this case chemical propulsion for solid objects) in space is indeed possible. Current generation of gunpowder doesn't require oxygen, at least not from the Earth, the propellent itself is self oxidized so the round can be fired off. This is due to the fact that the round itself is very secure (air tight har har pun) so it is possible for bullets to be fired in space. The main problem, is temperature, space has none it all depends on how close one is to the sun itself so it could be incredibly hot or very cold. The former meaning, the round itself would ignite while the latter would freeze up stopping the ignition process. However I am basing this off today's current generation of firearms technology. You could assume (I know) that the vipers or any other strike craft in general would have insulation in the magazine to prevent the previously said things from happening, however the drawing of his side arm was a tad silly, and the fact handgun rounds managed to damage a space craft, was again silly.

It was said the technology of weapons in NuBSG was/is mass driver technology however due to the fact we see an explosion/fire from the barrels means chemicals were involved. Plus if a rail gun was used, you'd just see the impact of the rounds hitting due to the high velocity of magnetic propulsion, then again that doesn't look impressive on television or in the effects department, its an eye candy versus science thing. I've always questioned the technological development of NuBSG, but that said the thing they are going for, a more world war 2 Esq level of battles, dog fighting (similar to how the old star wars movies did it) and naval warfare (such as the broad side batteries on the ships), its a theme they are going with and as long as it is consistent I guess its alright?

Anyway back onto the webspode(s)! So far its alright for me (fairly average), I've probably gotten grumpier over these few years I've been away, but the whole rookie ace pilot teamed up with the old and grumpy co-pilot did make me go 'Really?' I hope they do more to expand this (break the mold so to speak) rather than relying on this tired cliche. I will put the above aside quite easily if the story is interesting and the characters are engaging (to me that is). I'll see how it goes before I cast a true judgement on it, until then I'll just do my standard twiddling and nit picking.
