Wow you did not like the Finale of Mash? Some say it was great because they ended the war and let them all go home. What about it did you not like?

I did not care for that finale at all, but honestly I had checked out way before that. Maybe it was Hawkeye going nuts on the bus, IDK. M*A*S*H was an awesome show in the beginning and they just kept it running too long I think.

Yup, the MASH at the beginning didn't resemble the MASH at the end. I remember my dad, who had served in the Korean "police action" shaking his head and turning off MASH in the later seasons. He said they had lost their sense of "realness" for that era and the jokes were no longer funny. I tended to agree with him.

The tone definitely changed after Henry Blake departed, and I think the writers managed to do a good job for a while. But at some point they jumped the shark and started mailing it in. :(

Alright, here's what I've got:

Best Pilots

Alias, Stargate Atlantis, BSG, Heroes & Scrubs

Worst Pilots
Dollhouse, ST Voyager, Caprica

Best Finales
Stargate SG1, Scrubs*, Caprica

Worst Finales
ST Enterprise, Stargate Atlantis, Terminator: TSCC, Alias

*I don't really count the awful 9th season as part of the original show since it had the name Scrubs: Med School in the opening title sequence during that season. At least that's my excuse.

If this is the spot where we are talking about MASH....In the movie they operated on the guys for 2 minutes and were soaking wet with blood. In the TV show after a ten hour operation Trapper would come out of the operating room with not a drop of blood on his apron. The loss of Radar was too great.

As for Captain Janeway. What Starship captain would leave her crew and ship stranded in some god forsaken place. Beware if I ever become the captain I will ask for volunteers who want to stay behind and then send the ship back. Trying to get home would of been the stuff that legends are made from.

This is great stuff. Please feel free to debate why you agree or disagree without somebody's choices or why you defend your own.

Disagree without somebody's choices?
Debate why you defend your own?
I think somebody needs a break. ;)

Egad, trying to multi-task too many things.
Let me try to restate what I meant.

Please feel free to debate over whether over why you might agree or disagree with somebody else's choices. Then in turn, to defend your own choices if needed.

For Instance.

Best Pilots
Lost, Fringe, Fraiser, Enterprise, BSG,House and Sopranos:
I loved these Pilots because I thought they really did a good job of setting the tone and concept for the show. Lost and BSG also had great battle scenes.

Worst Pilots
Voyager, Falling Skies, Caprica, Merlin:
Voyager Pilot was one of their worst eps for a great show, I thought it was drug out to long to make the point.
The others just kinda fell flat with too much Drama for FS and Caprica and not enough Magic for Merlin.

Best Finales
Voyager, ER,Newhart Show,SG1, TNG and Smallville:
Fitting Ending for Smallville, ER was huge tearjerker, I liked the twist that allowed Teal'c to age, Newhart with Emily best Twist ever, Poker game with Picard what could be better?

Worst Finales
Lost, SGU, Sopranos, BSG, Enterprise, Seinfeld, Angel, and Cheers:
I hated Lost, Sopranos and BSG because they left it up to me to write ending in my head. SGU was the Eli show lame-ass excuse for an ending. Enterprise was turned into a flashback for TNG and killed off Trip, Seinfeld left them sitting in a jail cell. Cheers had Sam Close Bar, and Angel seemed to end the world. All in all crappy payoffs for the shows.

The Belle of the Ball
Best Pilots: SGA...Rising was breath-taking! DS9, Once Upon a Time...an interesting beginning.

Worse Pilots: SGU ('nuff said):P

Best Finales: Remington Steele (they finally "get together!" ;) ) Newhart (yep best twist ever!) SG1 but also the saddest there! *sniff*, SGU- it ENDED! :thoranime12:

Worst Finales: Enterprise, BSG redux (facepalm that one  we saw it coming! ) SGA ( of course! )

I basically agree with most, except the SGU still just plain stunk. I had completely forgotten about Remington Steele.

I liked Remington Steele - it was well acted, had clever scripts and featured a deft blend of detective drama and comedy - in this "dramedy" type of programming it was a pioneer.

Best pilots: BSG, Lost, X-Files, SG-1, Scrubs and MASH. Each show gave us a reason to tune in during the following week. The characters were more than believable.

Best Endings: Quantum Leap, Cheers, The Fugitive, Falcon Crest, MASH, and Babylon-5. Just as these shows started in a particular location. They ended in the same locations and made us wonder if there was going to be more.

Least favourite pilot: Voyager. Captain Janeway’s decision making was not up to their usual standards. Maybe because the role was written for someone else might have something to do with it.

Worse Endings: Shows like BSG, Lost, Archie Bunker, and Deep Space 9. Their endings were not bad, but just kind of ‘fuzzy’. We thought they were going in a particular direction only to find those endings were not what we thought they were going to be.

I was actually not happy the ending of Quantam Leap or Cheers. I expected more. I agree with Mash. I loved Voyager because it had a cool twist at end and they got home.

Side Note:
You liked SG1 pilot ....we shall be starting our SG1 rewatch soon and the Pilot will be the first one. ;)

squeeing for Steele.

I basically agree with most, except the SGU still just plain stunk. I had completely forgotten about Remington Steele.

OMG how could you have forgtten that little show which introduced America to the gorgeousness of Pierce Brosnan??? I adored the show (and the man) and knew from the first moment he would be a wonderful James Bond. (and he was the best...definitely better than Alfred E. Newman who plays bond now:P)

I liked Remington Steele - it was well acted, had clever scripts and featured a deft blend of detective drama and comedy - in this "dramedy" type of programming it was a pioneer.

ditto and more ditto. I loved the sly humor of the show...stephanie zimbalists father Efrem playing Remington steele's father. Britlliant casting there: Efrem Zimbalist Jr who played straighter than straight arrow inspector Erskine playing the slightly shady but oh so charming conman Daniel Chambers(steele's father). I also enjoyed the casting of Brosnan's real life wife, Cassandra Harris, as a former lover of Steele's. This show also played into my love of old movies...my "game" was could I guess which movie Steele would reference. :) ahh good memories. :)

M*A*S*H started out as a good ensemble show (as the movie had no "stars" in it, either), but then it gravitated to "The Amazing Alan Alda Over-Acting Fest" (think Calculon from Futurama) and it got overbearing.

My opinion of things, anyway.
