That's what the farmers here use.

make sure you get plnety of 'brown matter' into your compost pile

veg and fruit waste alone isn't enough for a good balance for gardening purposes

shredded brown leaves from any deciduous tree or bush, grass clippings (from a lawn that is not chem treated), aged wood chips (fresh chips will steal nitrogen from your pile), unwaxed paper and cardboard (paper towel and toilet paper--those cardboard rolls they come on are great), cardboard egg cartons, egg shells, coffee grounds, tea bags

all are example of 'brown matter' and will add great balance to your compost as well as attract worms so you can get worm castings into the mix as well

and no need to cover a pile--you will see that this is listed as 'necessary', it is not. we have three active piles now all of diff ages and none are covered.

if your area is dry you need to add some water now and again as well

it is weird, but making your own soil is kind of addictive :)

good luck

I am sorry to sound poor sob, but one thing I'll share is that I struck a pedestrian while he was drunk. He simply ran and tripped on my car. I suffer from PTSD because of that.
I know. You told us somewhere around here. But if I understood you correctly the person ended up alright. Seems to me like you're suffering far more than whomever else was involved in the accident. I know I'm not a trained psychologist, neither have I scooped a pedestrian with a car, but to me it seems like you yourself are making yourself suffer. I even get the feeling a bit that perhaps this incident was a trigger but is not actually the root cause for your feelings. I know there are other things at play which you have mentioned. Perhaps those things are the cause, but perhaps not even. Maybe this goes back way way further than you realize. Don't think about your recent life. For starters, think back to your childhood, your very earliest memory. Then reminisce about things which have happened since then. Then repeat a few times. You can do this while listening to music and enjoying a beer or whatever. You should come across some fond memories. Perhaps some ugly memories as well. But that is a good thing. You will remember the person you used to be before all the shit went down. I think that will help you to stabilize.

well since you didn't respond, in any form (comment or rating) to either of my posts, then...

no, i am not taking it personal, but, to continue on the theme that LB mentioned--that being, you wanting to seemingly turn EVERY THREAD at gf's into a self pity for yourself thread.

i started this thread to have a site for all of us to share with what we do as hobbies and for gardening or home/yard improvements, etc

so, i took the time to answer your question on tomatoes and some advice-based on what i have been doing for a long time now, successfully, on composting for garden use

but, since your responses since have only been to LB and they are only on your issues and not gardening or anything DiY, then this is nothing more then another attempt by you to garner attention

NO I AM not saying your feelings and pain are not valid- so please do not misunderstand

but, hey, if you sincerely do want info on gardening o other things that i have knowledge or experience in, I'LL BE YOUR HUCKLEBERRY!!! :)

until then, could you please stop with the 'thread pollution'

It has been a lot of tragic and unfortunate events but I haven't become corrupt because to me corruption just adds to the sickness but I have become numb to certain things.

It's not just the accident, but I got bullied at work, they conspired to get me fired and I was unable to get any remedial action, I have been robbed of my innocence, I was robbed of over $240k, which I was going to share with the family, there is some other stuff I don't wish to share but I have been on the firing line, each time when I have been innocent in all encounters with no avenue of justice. Not one! I am so calf when I hear music and get really passionate about my beliefs and believe in the absolutes. I have tried to help out others who are in my kind of situations like my musical idols, but they sold themselves out for fame and money and play the crappiest music ever.

There is still hope in me. I still see beauty in life and the candle wick is still burning. Music is fuel that keeps the burning wick going and wash away the pain with it. I love it too much to let go of life.

I am also getting help and the most help I can get. I have a scheduled jaw surgery next year and currently getting orthodontic treatment. The shock really did fuck with my face but I am getting the most help I can get but that help was due to my own research. All these other shitty doctors just wanted to drug me thinking that drugging me will solve my problems. One doctor even refused to give me another test but they'll pay for their negligence. I am seeing the specialist tomorrow infact on my next treatment but it has been not only expensive but painful recovery but I owe the answer to music. Music SAVED me and helped me find the answer and cure to my problems. Most people turn to drugs or alcohol and run away from their problems when faced with danger or when they are down, but I turn to beauty of nature and beauty of humanity. I was brave enough to say no this is a very destructive habit of a point of no return. Infact, I'll say that music is a VERY VERY VERY powerful healer.

So am I to understand then that this accident you had with the pedestrian caused YOU to be injured?

It's simply beautiful! Love the top picture especially. WOW! I remember when you posted pictures of that pond when you first created it, and now look at it! It's like one of those special gardens like you saw on Bajor in Star trek in the Vedic monastery, or one of the dream gardens in my virtual reality relaxation apps. But without bees or wasps. :) Hey, what ever happened with those paper wasps? Do you still have your little army of cats?

i have been getting this kind of response a lot.

a girl-well woman now, she is like 30 something (no not the flat earther)- who i put in the army. she is married and has ben trying to get her husband to start building a pond

i put up the pic to give her some ideas

like 30 some ppl put up likes and loves for it

i guess it is just common sense that when you look at something everyday it is not as impactful

and the lots isn't even in bloom yet. if that thing blooms this yr the way it should, we will get like 7" across flowers on top of stems that will get a good 3ft above the water line

Hey, what ever happened with those paper wasps?

the 'expert' from Penn State Univ last yr told me that only the queen would survive after wintering over in the nest.

last yr after i took that pic, a bear smashed through the garden fence and swiped a big chunk off of it. they drones tried to repair it but it started getting cold ( around beginning of Oct), not freezing, and i guess it was not enough mass to insulate

this yr, i carefully took apart what was left and found no queen, no nothing expect a honey comb in the center

i did not know that wasps made honey? but there was something that got that bears attn

i took down the nest and threw it into the compost pile. it will be 'consumed' just like paper

yes, we still have those outdoor cats.

none of them were ever really ours. they just kind of moved in (they may have been dumped, we get that a lot). their clan was down to one female last year and some stray male 'peanut butter' colored HUGE cat got her pregnant

so this yr it is her and her 3 kittens and one cat we had inside that just wouldn't house train (we still have her sister in here)

and whoever else comes around at night....

my wife's garden help. our grand daughter (technically she is now our daughter as well since we just finalized the adoption)

we have gardens everywhere. i hate cutting grass- and our son hates it more :) - so a long time ago, the wife and i decided to put in as many perennial garden areas as possible. we gave Ally a patch of her own. she planted these asiatic lily bulbs this past march

Stick it to the corporate man!!

hey yeah, i know its cheap to buy, but why buy more when you can 'recycle' what you already paid for and get the same results?

the ability to regrow stuff like green onions from the root base of store bought ones is well known

but you can do this with celery as well

just start the stump of the celery in water till you get some roots (4 -6 days or so) then transfer to a garden or a pot or just keep it in water on your window sill

before and after pics

I have done this! But I never planted the stalk. I just kept it in water until I could harvest it and then threw the soggy stump away. I have done it with Romaine lettuce too. :)

the simple number of people who have no clue this stuff could be done--not even a question from them on it- is amazing.

they are so dependent on the 'system' to the point it controls what they don't think of
