I think the chalkboard is just an old fashioned touch. You should see the look on the faces of workmates when I do formulas longhand instead of using a computer.

The younger Hansen thinks Raleigh was at fault in the opening battle we saw. Plus as Idris elba says he is an arrogant ass.

She went after him! It fits her character perfectly - she has fury locked inside her trying to get out.

He explains it later in the film----too many fights in old Jaegers without proper reactor shielding.
