Idris Elba was awesome in this film. He totally comes off as a convincing General.

I think the Japanese would have put a human in a suit for the Jaegers, making them less convincing. These giant robots are 100% CGI and they look so cool with the battle wear and weathering. Love this scene in the water.

Del toro also did good by having everything (Kaiju and Jaegers) move a touch slower than the Transformers - it gives a better sense of power and scale this way.

Notice how the displays in the kaigu center use three primary colors for the laser display? It looks far more believable than the instant floating displays we see in shows like Atlantis and other shows which have them.
