Note that both things you cited are just pure speculation by people, in one case the writer (who mistakenly thinks the model is transformers) and the other is just musing by ATJ. I'll go with the idea that Kaiju films don't use recurring characters and like this film respected the genre so will the sequel.
Brad Wright has to be pissed as hell right now, especially after his holier than thou all-knowing pronouncement that they could wish all they wanted, but they wouldn't be able to make more movies.
Screw yourself, Brad. Your hubris just whipped around and bit you in the ass.
Why? Im glad to get Stargate back in some form at least. It just seems like icing on the cake that we get it from it's original creators. It would be like Gene Roddenberry taking up Trek after Enterprise petered out the TV franchise (RIP Gene!).
I have confidence that Brad Wright wont be involved in this production on any level. But they could pay a silent homage to SG-1, Atlantis and SGU by picking actors from those shows to be in the movie. Give them different character names and roles, but have them in there. They could have cameos without ever referring to Brad Wright canon.
- What ideas did Devlin and Emmerich have for the aliens with the pyramid ships and the stargates? We only saw Abydos.
- Where did these aliens come from? They were not human.
- Where else do the stargates go? Emmerich and Devlin's stargates can go to different galaxies, not just systems in the Milky Way.
