I really love Borgias. The show is quite interesting to me. Not as sexual in your face as TGOT but the historical drama is still as gritty. Jeremy Irons kicks ass in this show by making you love and hate him at the same time.

Jeremy Irons is a GOOD actor. :) I was not really a fan of the Borgias as the "subject matter" doesn't really interest me, but it was done very well.

Yeah, District 9 was fun because it actually focused more on character development. I mean you felt for the guy and his whole transformation, external and internal.
It has a good balance to it, read into it if you wish, or just enjoy the ride. Good on multiple levels, but it didn't really excel at either position either.

It is a historical drama, you either like them or not.
I love them.

This is really more about the irony that he was in the CC and the Pope. It is much more like SOA or The Sopranos.

Considering my view of the CC, it's hardly "Ironic" to me unfortunately...................
That however is for a different thread. :P

I won't comment about the CC. I used to be one as a preteen.

That being said, there is still deep thick irony as you watch the Cardinal son murder person after person and beg his father to leave the cloth and become a warrior.

I finally got around to watching The Woman in Black, starring Daniel Radcliffe, and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. Finally, a modern horror film which has managed to provied some genuine suspenseful moments, while not relying one bit on blood and gore. In fact, there is only two scenes in the whole film which features blood in any capacity, and it's used briefly and in a way which makes sense in the context of the story. This makes for refreshing change from the overdose of torture porn type movies we've gotten in recent years (I'm looking at you, Saw!).

So if you're interesting in watching a good gothic ghost story with solid acting and a good plot, I definitely recommend The Woman in Black. You won't be be disappointed. :beckett_new049:

Just gonna make a whole bunch of recommendations I've recently watched, tv and movies.

TV:

Blake's 7 - I haven't watched it in full only the first two seasons so far. For anyone that has watched Farscape, I'd recommend this. Although this series is dated, I thought it was really good because it took itself seriously and the characters all had personalities, some more than others. Vila and Avon remind me of Mckay from SGA. It's not as wacky as Farscape but had a good somber tone to it that worked. I've been seeing a lot of similarities between Farscape and Blake's 7, wonder if the creator of Farscape saw this show.

Tron: Uprising - Forget the movie, I think many would enjoy this show. It doesn't disappoint, in fact as each episode goes on, it just gets better and better. I'm surprised at the tone and darkness of this considering it's Disney. Also Bruce Box----- voices Tron so that's pretty fun, other major actors also voice the other characters. The story is good, there's a lot of character development which surprises me.

Breaking Bad - It is the best show on tv right now. It is dark, well written. I'd go as far as to say it's written better than Babylon 5, which I thought had the best writing for a tv show. The Wire was written well too, but thought it was too grounded in reality, can just watch the news for that.

Community - It's a funny quirky show but be warned, there's a lot of misses with some of its episodes.

Fate/Zero - anime, would recommend it to anyone into sorta action-y animes, surprised at the writing of this. Also this is a prequel but I recommend you just watch this instead of the other ones.

Monster - another anime, definitely the best anime I've seen. It's grounded in reality sorta. I'd consider it to be a better psychological anime than Death Note for those familiar with anime.

Movies:

The Warrior's Way - I thought it was pretty decent, nothing too groundbreaking. Some of it was cute, with the baby. Action meant to be a visual spectacle more than anything. Good movie to pass the time with.

Amelie - French date movie, it's cute, cute characters.

Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuiokuhen - it's fine if you haven't seen the series. In fact, it's better if you haven't. This is a samurai anime that's surprisingly more about character than non-stop hack-em-up/japanese culture glorification.

I recommend the corned-beef Reuben on rye with the in-house marinated pickles at the Carnegie Deli in NYC. Be careful, though, because their sandwiches are big enough to feed a family of four.

Into the West - a mini-series, only watched the first episode, it's pretty good, especially the cinematography

Point Blank - french action-y flic, pretty good.

Prometheus - it wasn't that bad as some people make it out to be, pretty high production value, it has good potential, as long as it doesn't go the route of the last act which was derivative 'horror'

Batman: Year One - the entire movie was very good minus bat's voice and relationship drama in the middle, you could see where Nolan got his inspiration, definitely recommending this; Bryan Cranston did the voice for Gordon a perfect fit

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 - This was pretty good too, Batman's a bit more beefy but it works within the general atmosphere of this one, hope part 2 comes out soon, there's already a preview for it

On an aside, don't think a live action justice league movie will have the same caliber as the cartoon movies DC puts out, don't think it'll translate well. They seem to want to rush to put out one more than anything cause of the money Avengers made. Eh, we'll see how it goes I guess. Also Bluce, I swear man, if you post another ffin recipe underneath....

Looper. It's not perfect but it deals with time travel paradoxes better than most genre movies. That said, it gets confusing with the telekinetic plot. A pretty decent performance by Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. I liked him in The Dark Knight Rises and he carries this one pretty well.

Nicely dug up.

Skyfall - Just saw it earlier, pretty damn good, took a serious tone and it worked, plenty of humour as well.
