I think a lot of the problem stems from the Netflix purging of a couple years ago when they lost a lot of content over licensing, etc. They suddenly had this giant hole in their library and panicked and filled it with whatever cheap foreign shit they could get for a song. Seriously, this shit has to cost them nothing to host. And what's worse is that they lump all this foreign crap in every category and try to make it look like it's an English language film, which many people find frustrating. I, personally, don't mind reading subtitles but a lot of people I know simply refuse to do so, which limits movie night.
Incidentally, I recently saw a Danish zombie film on Netflix which, while low budget, was actually pretty good (although the ending was unsatisfying). I'm open to watching foreign language films but Netflix needs to be more honest about that up front. It bugs a lot of people to have to surf thru scads and scads of stuff they are never going to watch just to find something worthwhile.
