Netflix cracks down on proxy/VPN users.

Well, I just started seeing the dreaded "Whoops!" message while testing with PIA. VPNs cannot be detected, so, I did a little research and it looks like I was right. There is a concerted effort to catalog all popular VPN IP ranges, made available via a large database.

However, it seems this can be defeated as well. :D

Using Smart DNS, they're able to confuse the other end. This service offers VPN with the a Smart DNS option. Just testing it now and, so far, 100% success.

Ahh, good question. I haven't tried it in Windows, to be honest. I've only booted into the Windows partition maybe 5 times since I got this Yoga 3. :icon_lol:
It does not show in Services

You won't need PIA anymore if ExpressVPN works. :)

I've got another sure-fire way of getting around this, if ever all of them get blocked. Get yourself a Linux VM (Digital Ocean's smallest instance starts at $5/month), set up a VPN on it and you're done. Since the IP doesn't belong to any commercial VPN service, it will not appear on any blacklist.

OMG that is brilliant!!!! I never thought of that before. How to pass http(s) requests through that VPN if it is hosted?

A VPN redirects all your data traffic through the tunnel. It doesn't matter what format that data takes.

There are a couple ways.

If you're strictly using your browser, you could set up a simple SSH tunnel and redirect your browser traffic through that. In your browser, you would set up a SOCKS proxy to the localhost and SSH port you selected.

If you want to redirect all traffic, set up OpenVPN on Linux.

Digital Ocean has a nice, neat how-to:
