THIS IS PURE TRUTH. I will watch that. It is about time they did one of these. I liked Super Size Me, but it focused on fast food (specifically McDonalds) instead of sugar. it also did not show how complicit the government is in allowing so many unhealthy foods to be sold in stores. I am starting to think they WANT a generation of sick people, so they can profit on the illnessess caused by sugar poisoned foods and poor exercise.
bolded= or a liberal move to make everyone call for govt run single payer health care for everyone--one more way to intrude into ppl's lives
but yes, few ppl actually know or take the time to investigate just what it is they are eating. The govt should never be trusted in our running of the food supply chain--they hardly ever actually inspect foods, they just inspect and certify the production process (ex: do you think that every egg has been inspected and graded?) To make matters worse, the FDA/USDA usually allows plants/companies/farms to self inspect--I am sure that this is actually done (yeah right!) by employees. Do really think that Joe Schmo is going to endanger his job by shutting the line down so he can inspect to USDA standards? No way!
As to the sugar and any other "market insurance" to make ppl crave and buy a product, that is where education comes in. From parents, schools and elsewhere--if we are educated properly on what choices to make then more ppl would most likely make those choices (given a fairly priced market). If they don't then its on them (their bad health that is)
When you look at the system in place for food production and SALES (note, I did not say distribution), you see the reasons to package it as a product. You have to make that product last long enough to sell it, and you have to make it appealing enough for people to buy the product. That means you process it and "enhance" it with sugars as well as preservatives, and you have to pay for packaging, distribution, advertising, management, employees, etc. Your eggs are FREE! They are free of garbage feed, they are free of machines and dirty workers handling the chickens, and you actually know the chickens personally. I wish I had that. Do you occasionally take a chicken as a meal? I think I would do that for an older hen.

I don't understand this argument. How does single payer, which would essentially regulate the health industry and do away with gouging, intrude in people's lives?
Before you answer, let me take my $50 pair of over-the-counter 200mg Advils for this mild headache from the $9 tiny paper cup in which they were given to me.
COKE
I never drink the stuff . Usually just get a sugary goodness of ice tea when out for a snack . I don't like the ice tea either but when you are out and about there are no more water fountains anywhere accept at or city parks . Prefer good ole H2O as often as I can .
Speaking of can , here ,,, drink one of these

That is caused by third party paying for health care. If the patient had to directly pay for health care, then $9 paper cups would end immediately.
Yes, that is true. But the idea of Obamacare was to control the costs of healthcare. if it were up to the healthcare industry, we would have to pay for sneezing in the waiting room, for tissues and for the robes and gloves used in medical offices.
How? Limit the amount of money doctors can be paid for work, and the hospital raises the cost of something else.
Any govt run program comes with mandated participation in govt run programs.
My acceptance of med care from the VA requires me to (at the minimum) read and check "i agree" that I understand the importance of healthy eating (their suggested menu's for such a program paid for by processed food industry lobbyists), that I will do some type of exercise three times a week, that I will practice safe sex, that I will report any instance of suspected child, spousal or elder abuse, and that I have completed the VA mandated "anti suicide" program
All things well and good and well intentioned--the problem is that to be able to use the benefits (technically) I must unconditionally accept their mandates on my lifestyle.
The same thing would happen in a govt run single payer health program for all
~~~~~~~AND--The high cost of health care in the US is a direct product of the inflated rates of tuition for undergrads and medical school
I do not believe there is another country that allows its schools to charge so much or holds dr;s in such a high esteem -as if they were gods ("doctor said...." instead of "the dr said..." is one way of this worship practiced)
The worst part of it is that in most places, the professors and other teaching staff--those that do the actual work--have very poor salaries and most of the money made (like funneling student loans and govt grant money into college coffers by 'recruiting' low income students) tends to go to building 'reflective gardens' on campus, posh campus admin (not faculty!) offices and more and more cheap student housing so that they can maximize enrollment
Make tuition for undergrad and med school realistic and then health care costs will go down as well
Many dr's must charge high rates just so they can eat after paying their student loans
