I watched the pilot tonight and it looked like Syfy has invested some real money in this one. The premise is slightly more plausible than "Sharktopus".

The premise is so stupid I couldn't bring myself to watch it - figures that SyFy would think it's worth an actual monetary investment.

What I was alluding to earlier in the thread was that the show MIGHT hit a vein. It is made for "simple" people who believe in that sort of thing. If a show like Duck Dynasty, The Walking Dead or Jersey Shore can be a hit with that audience, why not Dominion?

I don't know anyone who would actually believe in this premise - which is one of the reasons that "Legion" (the film it is based on) bombed. The basic premise is preposterous, and I don't mean just in terms of real world physics or such. It is clearly meant to be fantasy not Science Fiction but is not even usable fantasy.

I always took LEGION as a horror movie, before and after I watched it. In these kind of "angel movies" (Same with that Christopher Walken one, Which, IMO was much better/Entertaining)

that these 'angels' and their heaven are just other wordly/para-terrestrial beings/places--like part of a "shrouded" part of earth that we just don't see, Rather than the straight out of the bible "angels" which of course, the concept of has been much changed and edited over the yrs and through the editors

Going into any of these movies with any kind of "religious perspective (pro or con)" is not the way to go with this genre--just take it for the fantasy that it is

I watched the show last night, it was a bit entertaining--though i am not yet sure if it was in being made to laugh by the plot/ what I saw (like the angel in the super hero get up).

It is a long stretch from LEGION to DOMINION though...

And though all I know of the HUNGER GAMES are the commercials, seems to me that the "design" and concept of Vega is taken from those films

I didn't mind the movie Legion so much, lame as it was, but this show Dominion seems wayyyyyy more Hunger Games style as Yongin has pointed out. The costuming, the characters, the affectations they all have -- all of it is Hunger Games.

There were some good visuals (and a good performance by Tony Head) but other than that it didn't have enough juice to keep my attention. If I was a 12yo girl I'm sure I would have loved it but alas, I haven't been a 12yo girl for quite awhile now. ;)

That's the thing - I tried to just take it like any fantasy but to me it totally fails even as general fantasy. The premise is so stupid and preposterous that it makes the show's world unbelievable out of the box. Add in paper thin characters and the near total focus on political intrigue and "adult" content and it came off as a cheap ripoff of "Game of Thrones".

But everyone loves fat evil drooling black eyed angels. SyFy just may have a winner here. :eagerness:

You are right. This dreck is so asinine that it was not worth watching after the first 10 minutes. The premise alone is enough to turn it off, but I tried to watch it and couldn’t last. I cant suspend belief enough to want to watch. This show is one I will skip.

The "fat evil drooling black-eyed angel" was actually more interesting than the rest of that dreck.

I admit the "tattoo eye candy" of this guy in the last few minutes was rather nice though. Still, it's not enough to keep me glued to the TV. After all, the show is no DEFIANCE. ;) :icon_lol:

Dominion Season 1 Episode 1
Jim of WVa - 2.0 million viewers

That is REALLY REALLY BAD for a premiere of such a hyped show. Unfortunately, I think that is a result of the setup sequence in the beginning of the episode. It tells you right off that you are going to be watching nonsense.

Which is also why the movie Legion bombed. Bad worth of mouth that the film was nonsensical.

I was eyerolling right through the whole thing in the beginning which was setting the show up. Then, the "angels" with the wings looked pretty cool attacking that truck thing, but then it was juxtaposed with some military installation and I just was shaking my head. I could not get the opening sequence and the premise out of my head. About 10 minutes in, I just turned it off.

That was my guess. The actual ratings was less than 2 million.

Like I stated in the other thread, a 1.96 for a series premiere that was fairly heavily promoted and 90 minutes long for a fairly expensive show is a disaster - SyFy's press release is an exercise in massive spinning to try to cover that up a bit. Tweets? Who cares? Tweets don't pay ad revenues in.

It is a COMPLETE disaster, ratings wise. But no decision is ever made on one stumble. :) Two episodes allows you to show a trend, three allows you to see a pattern, four verifies the pattern, and five allows forecasting. I give this until the "break" (if it has one). Of course, it could have gotten a two year deal, which means it will really sink (or not). Some people are liking this thing. :(

Agree completely. The series premiere was obviously expensive to produce and there's no way a 1.96 will make up for such an expenditure. The pathetic hyping of tweets, as if they matter, is yet more proof that this one is a failure out of the box. I wonder if it will even make a full season run, bad as it is.

The size of the cast, the FX/CGI, and the locations/sets are simply not sustainable for SyFy in terms of budget, especially with such a lame story behind it. We all know this. Shame SyFy hasn't learned the lesson yet.
