Sanctuary Ratings Discussion

Indeed. The best ratings it has pulled so far since the move to Mondays.

I still want it back in its Friday slot.

Thanks, Rocky. Green for posting those! I thought Travis would never get around to it anymore...

Agree with Joelist: in spite of the nice 0.6/1 HH, those aren't great ratings by any measure. But it's a huge improvement. I hope the trend of a few good episodes in a row is starting to pay off and to reflect on the ratings. Since this was a two-part episode (at least, if not the lead-in to the season finale), I expect the live ratings to go up next week as people tune in to see who/what caused the time-bubble mess. :)

Unlike the last time the ratings went up, this is more than a tiny uptick, this is an considerable increase. I was hooooooooooping for any increase at all, anything, because I didn't want to see them get worse, I did not, they got considerably better. :)

Make no mistake, I WANT it back on Fri more than anything, and nothing will change my mind. ;)

This was a whopping 40% increase in live viewership! Let's see another one of those next week and all the discussions about the move to Monday or moving back to Friday will settle down... ;)

I'm hoping to see ratings well above the 1 million mark for yesterday's episode tonight :)

I guessed an even million. Obviously I'd love to be wrong on the low side.

As happy as I am about the ratings, I dtill don’t want the show on Mon, not at all. It’s doing good NOW, now that with 1 episode left of the season, and that most of the big shows are gone for the summer. I want the show back on Fri, and that’s all there is to it, because I still don’t think Mon is best for it, and it’s not safe. And oh, I want them to have a real lead-in in S4, on FRI!

Well, I believe Squall over ready stated that they were definitely moving the show back next season. But I would not hold my breath for anything other than the Wrestling lead in. :icon_e_wink: I bet, GF would know more about that.

I rest my case!
People still want to watch Sanctuary, but now syfy knows what slot is worth putting things on and what isn't, and it won't cost anyone a show they love.

What Bastards...............

Thanks Rocky :) Those are indeed official numbers - as Yoshi posted, TVbytheNumbers is a legit source:

Sanctuary ep319 "Out of the Blue" (06/13/2011)
- 1.201 million viewers
- 0.4/1 HH

That's a second week with a huge leap in numbers.
Yes, that's just over 30% more viewers after last week saw a 40% increase. It looks like it took a while, but the fans finally found the show again on Monday. :joy:

Well the way SyFy bungled the change plus having a highly rated NBA playoff also wasn't helpful. But I am glad people seem to have relocated it.

When viewers like a show, they will follow it around. Or maybe Sanctuary found a new fanbase on Mondays.

Anyhow, this does beg the comparison to another recent show that couldn't rebound no matter what. I wonder what the spin is going to be at some other sold-out sites... ;)

Considering Sanctuary is airing against literally no competition, I'd say the comparisons to SGU are pretty unfair (that and SGU was still outperforming it on average). This is where Syfy can really do well; the the summer months where nothing is on the broadcasts networks. People go searching for shows and ones that wouldn't otherwise get a look in can build an audience. I can't even imagine how many people tuned into Warehouse 13 simply because it was the most interesting option available; it could well have tanked in the fall.

ROFL at the unfair.

Actually the comparisons to Sanctuary are unfair because 1) it airs in the later timeslot and will generally have less viewers and 2) it was moved with NO advanced warning unlike SGU.

Against the odds and some bad timing with pretty lame episodes Sanctuary has managed to do what SGU couldn't - break 1.2 mil viewers.

As for outperforming it on average, I'm assuming you mean on Mondays and there is VERY little between them with 1 more night for Sanctuary to go.

I wonder if delusional optimism will work again and we can crack 1.5 million for next week's finale?!?!?

Actually it might not be so delusional because the wrestling crowd might pump up Sanctuary's usual uptick in numbers for a finale because Edge will be a guest star (obviously planned before the move to Mondays). I'll have to ponder a bit before I put in a prediction for next week.

Wasn't SGU airing in the later timeslot anyway?

It's only managed to break that because we're now into the summer where there is no competition elsewhere. It's no coincidence that the numbers are going up at exactly the same time the network shows end.

I'm just saying that this is proving that Syfy needs either summer or Fridays to keep its shows alive; they get destroyed otherwise.

Or Amanda and crew have a devoted fanbase.
