Sometimes my dear Stoneless, a 'cake' is just a 'cake'.
And why did you expect more criticism from me? I like to think I'm fair and objective although that often takes a backseat to teasing you (because it's so fun!).
In general I try not to comment too much on reviews here as they are always so personal in nature. It's one thing to argue facts but quite another to argue subjectivity. Your review was actually pretty straight forward. To be honest I was expecting you to be a bit more contrarian in order to play the Devil's advocate so I was surprised that you kept everything so even keel. In a way you have deprived me of the fuel needed for a good sustained public lashing, which may be the most diabolical thing you've ever done. Well played good sir!

Nope there was no mentioning of that.
Though I think that if a group of 80 people was to found a new civilization they'd have to make some sort of arrangement where lots of people have babies with eachother, so not just with a single person.

Assuming the colonist didn't have access to in-vitro fertilization techniques she would have to surrender and do it the dirty way.

Stargate impact?
Ok, I'm new to this forum so be gentle with me, please. I thought this episode was much improved and a decent twist on the numerous time travel episodes we've had throughout all 3 shows. I'm particularly curious to know who the mother of alt-Eli's son was but obviously the writers are leaving that one intentionally ambigious.
That being said, I do have one major problem with this episode and I'm surprised that no one else seems to have picked up on it (although I haven't exactly been thorough in my search of the forums so I may have missed a comment). My problem is that one of those measly little drones managed to blow a chunk out of a stargate. Sorry, I'm just not buying that. On several occasions on SG1 we have seen stargates remain intact after nuclear explosions, ships crashing into them and even a meteor impact. I find it hard to believe that one little drone could blow a whole in one. And the fact that this little plot device happened only to strand Eli and the others for 1 night when we knew that Destiny would come back for them all seemed a bit cheap. There's no way that Col Young is gonna leave that many main cast members behind!
Just a small little gripe I know but it kinda bugged me. In my opinion, the episode would have worked just as well if everyone escaped the planet first time and they spent more time at the end on the homeworld discovering what happened with the supervolcano.
Anyway, regardless of this I really did enjoy this episode a lot, in fact more than any I can remember in recent weeks. I just had to get that stargate thing off my chest! Ah, breathe... much better now!

One plausible explanation I have heard is that the Destiny class gates are not as structurally solid as the MW or PG gates. Makes sense to me, but I haven't seen the ep yet, we don't get it till next week.

Yep, and those same little drones were firing at Destiny a while back and the shields protected them somewhat. If those drones are powerful enough to blow a chunk out of a stargate, they should have punched through Destiny as easily as a fork through cake. Big plotholes like that drove me crazy about this show.

Kid gloves...I can see how the 'hole in the gate' issue can be confusing for some. (expecting some smart ass to say that there's supposed to be a hole in the gate now)
The stargates in SGU are supposed to be older than the gates in SG1 and SGA. It is said nowhere that they are even made of naquadah. The SGU gates are smaller than the other gates. Also they work in a slightly different way and they have a much shorter distance capacity. So it is not a strange thing that the SGU gates are weaker than the SG1 and SGA gates. It's just a new addition to the so called SG-canon.
Regarding Overmind's remark about the drones not being able to penetrate Destiny's shields I can say that the stargates have no shields and therefore get the full blast of the weaponfire. If Destiny didn't have shielding it would likely be just as easily destroyed by the drones. The drones themselves are supposedly very technologically advanced. When the drones fire on Destiny we get to see bursts of sparks flying through the ships interior so even though the shields are up it still has some sort of effect. (this is ofcourse a very common visual effect in scifi series)

(insert shrek scottish accent*)nowhere far as i know but gates amplify c4 stuck to em, anyway imo it would have been logical for it to go critical and blow up.
also an add to this subject was there an ep this season where the gate had been buried in rock? possibly form an asteriod impact or something yet that thing could dial.. meh more Sg style plothles.. sg1 sga and sgu are all full of em so this sort of stupidity isnt limited to sgu.
