New 'Battlestar Galactica' movie will completely reimagine the sci-fi tale

roflbot (1).jpg

Universal is preparing to start work on a Battlestar Galactica movie. Variety says the studio is planning to completely reimagine the sci-fi story — in which space-bound humans fend off the attacks of nefarious cybernetic Cylons as they try to find a new home — just five years after the four-season Syfy TV show drew to a close. The planned film would mark the second time Battlestar Galactica has been rebooted after the original show aired in 1978.

Jack Paglen, the writer of the upcoming Transcendence, has agreed to pen the reboot's screenplay. Paglen is a hot property for studios wanting to create sci-fi at the moment: he's also slated to write Ridley Scott's Prometheus sequel. Glen Larson, who worked on the 1970s TV series, will produce the film, but there's no confirmation yet on who'll take on the role of director. Bryan Singer was originally attached to a Battlestar Galacticamovie project in 2011, but the production was put on hold in 2013 after the director committed to working on new X-Men movies. Having agreed to direct 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse, Singer is unlikely to have time to work on developing a new Battlestar.

I watched the whole second go at it and was beyond belief diss appointed . I preferred the original accept that one when Starbuck gets lost on a friggin planet and makes buddies with a gay Ceylon robot and seems to get some mysterious woman preggers . What a freak show that was ,,, .
I'll skip this next go of it and download it after the fact or maybe watch it netflixers

You RACIST HOMOPHOBE!!!!

Yeah! Cylons hate being called Ceylons! It's derogatory! They also hate being called Uncle Androids, shineys, porch lamps and circuit pickers among other well known racist monikers.

I hope they do a man-in-a-suit Cylon instead of a CGI Cylon.

Me too. But at least they specify "cybernetic" Cylons. Hopefully that means no human Cylons (omg how lame was that?)

Or at least animatronic models that actually exist in reality instead of just being pixels on the screen.

Specist homophobe? :daniel_new004:

(*This begs the question of whether or not Artificial Intelligence would be considered a species.)

You said racist and I said specist. So are Cylons a race or a species? :daniel_new004:

*In the original book Cylons were actual living aliens. They used mechanized warriors to fight their battles though. Before every chapter in that book they have entries from "Adama's Journal". This is where he explains the back story on the Cylons and weird stuff like how the Imperious leader has three (3) brains. I can't remember if Glen Larson wrote the book along with the show or if someone else did. But at any rate, the original story is far different than what Moore gave us in nuBSG.

This has nothing to do with what I said, it is interesting however. I doubt Larson wrote it simply because in OBSG they used Baltar for so much of their strategy. Surely a 3 brained leader would be better than a traitor for strategic reasoning?

You must! You must heed the siren call to derail this into a race thread!!! :daniel_new_anime021: :anim_59:

Baltar actually gets killed off in the original BSG pilot (it's believed). They changed it when they made it a series though. They also changed the Imperious Leader's voice which was more Cylon sounding in the pilot to that of Patrick Macnee who played Count Iblis (the Devil) later on.

Here's a link to the original story. It was just called Battlestar Galactica when I read it but now it's subtitled Saga of a Star World. It's definitely worth a read if you're one for reading scifi. I read it when I was a kid and it still resonates with me. It explains the whole Cylon thing in more detail and is definitely different than what we've seen on screen both old and new.

Dude, just go back and re-read what I quoted, paying attention to what I bolded.

Hang on, I remember the plot of the story with the Galactica and the Pegasus with the 3 base stars and it is Baltar running that scenario and trying to wipe them out. (it's SOOO fricking hard to remember Lloyd Bridges as a serious actor :P)
Granted though, my memory may be very faulty on many issues concerning BSG as I was never a "hardcore watcher" of it, and never saw it past first run out here, when I was around 6 I think..........

Your statement implies a generalization that everyone from Ceylon is of the same race, which is incorrect. As a veteran of the Race Riot threads on this site you of all people should know better. ;)

We'll see.

The reimagined BSG was okay in it's first season and even the beginning of Season Two. It was starting in the second half of Season Two (and indeed you can mark the start of the slide with the episode "Pegasus") where the show turned into a bad soap opera. That was also when they started rolling out plot elements that forced them later to retcon the basic plot to at least partly have things fit together.

If they could mix the more "real" feel of the military aspects of the early NuBSG and "Space: Above and Beyond" with the more Star Wars kind of atmosphere of the original it could be good.

I agree -- as long as the Cylons are Cylons and not human supermodels.

BINGO. (bolded). That is exactly when I stopped watching. I peeked in on seasons 3 and 4 and the suds were still frothing up. :( Even the final episode was lame.
