Falling Skies Critique Thread

In keeping with the "positive" atitude so many are wanting I decided we need a thread where it is okay to discuss what is wrong with Falling Skies. I have gotten very discouraged with the direction of this show. Last night Mr. Rac and I watched ep 5 and I spent the whole show heckling it. It hasn't sunk to the level of sgpoo- it is still watchable but barely! So here's my current criticism:
They seem to be back to perfectly coiffed MEN and women-- ever notice the men's hair isn't getting longer! And Hal (Tom's oldest son) seems to have an endless supply of hair gel to keep his hair perfect. And the hospital-- why didn't they test the vehicles left in the parking lot to see if any worked? and turning on the LIGHTS!?!? when they are supposed to be HIDING???? Why in heck are we watching Hal and the biker chick get cozy in a deserted car for 5 minutes? ok they have the hots for each other- but this is supposed to be scifi not SOAPFI!!! And the leader and the sedative- I don't know about you guys but whenever I have been injected with a sedative I am out in like 30 seconds...not able to hold a four to five minute conversation! Also they are supposed to be in Richmond Va already- when they left massachusetts only 2 eps ago? I don't think they are travelling THAT fast!

Let's keep it positive and say "what isn't right with Falling Skies" rather than "what is wrong with Falling Skies". You know, glass half full and all that ... crap ... ah, screw it. Who am I kidding?!?

Good catch on the injected sedative. You're right, if you inject someone with a sedative it immediately enters the blood stream and takes effect right away. Unless Weaver's blood circulation was non-existent (which means he'd be dead) then he wouldn't have been able to hold that cutesy cutesy "Let's make up...again" conversation with Tom.

As for the rest, yes, you're right -- too much needless soap-fi, too much hygiene going on and too much anti-survival stupidity talking place. They didn't need to do such a long scene with Hal and Biker chick huddled up in the car. There was a group of mechs literally 2 feet away yet they were talking to each other and blathering sweet nothings and sharing childhood stories. Um, wouldn't it be prudent to assume the mechs had ultra-sonic detection capabilities in addition to infrared detection capabilities? How is it that they can chat away while a mech is standing right next to them???

As it is I should hate the hybrid alien son but I don't...yet. I get that he's a big part of the story line but it is getting very tedious already and I have little optimism that his story will get better. They're already alluding to him "leaving for a little while" which means he's going to run off and join up with the aliens but won't be a full alien and will have his story line drawn out and blah blah boring I-don't-care blah. They could be doing much better stuff with this character but then again I guess that's true of the whole show.

Like I've said before I don't want to hate on a show, I don't want to be negative especially in regards to scifi, but when the production and story telling fails so needlessly then it's time to whip out the critiques.

This was a great idea, Rac! Perhaps we need a Falling Skies section where there are also ratings given? The show is getting a third season, so we can actually have some good dialogue about the show. Maybe even review the episodes like we used to do in our former life?

Hun, I know I've said this before, but, when it comes to posting opinions, whether positive or negative, or posting about controversial subjects, don't feel shackled as long as it remains within the CCPG. If some can't take it, f**k 'em. They can learn to to deal, participate or ignore.

I dunno, the majority of you seem to be giving this show the SGU treatment, where I am seeing positive moves being made by the showrunners. Last year, that kid was whiney and weak, "Mommy where are you". This year, he is a little rebel, a gun carrying terror-midget. Im liking that a lot.

The show has gotten better no doubt. However they still have cringeworthy moments (like the fully equipped hospital or the women all looking like they have beauty supplies at hand). Hopefully the trajectory continues to be one of improvement.

I like it much better than the incremental changes they made in SGU and Sanctuary. They actually changed the characters quite a lot, and the show is much more enjoyable.

I agree.

SGU really did not change in the problem areas at all. Sanctuary on the other hand started out strong, wandered away from its own strengths but then in its last season largely fixed the problems by means of a deliberate full show reboot - unfortunately their financing got pulled just when we would have seen the benefits of the reset.
