They may recoup their expenses, if they make the show adult.
They have just named Bryan Fuller the showrunner for this show:

Considering Fuller's extensive creds in Classic Trek, this should make for a contentious relationship between him and Kurtzman.
I think Fuller made that remark before Into Darkness came out. I wonder what his thoughts were after Into Darkness plunged the Trekverse into darkness....
Well, they did sue Axanar because those nimrods not only violated the non-profit part of the licensing but also used indiegogo and kickstarter funds raised for the Axanar film to set up a studio which has purposes other than Axanar. I hope Paramount cleans their clock then produces Axanar themselves using the Axanar producers.
This gimmick of making ST "pay-to-play" reminds me of Sarah Palin's great experiment in creating a subscription-based web site. That attempt failed miserably as we predicted. I think we're right on this one too.
http://www.gatefans.net/gforums/thr...he-showrunner-for-new-star-trek-series.28222/I think the best move for CBS to make is to play Good Cop to the Bad Cop of Paramount. Bend to the fans who made TV Trek so successful on TV. Give us something Trek, and we WILL send them money. They have their new lawsuit with Axanar Productions (over money no less), to prove there is still money in Star Trek that the movies are not getting. Take that million or so that Axanar collected:
$1,000,000 = 120,000 subscribers paying only $8.00 each.
Right now, the real Trek fans are screaming loudly that they DO NOT LIKE the JJverse, and want the familiar Trek universe back, even if it has to have all new characters and ships. Put is back in the prime universe and continue to expand the already existing map of the Federation and the aliens we have already met in the galaxy.
so keeping in mind a thing (imo) about entertainment rumors
-too early, and they are probably wrong
-timed about a yr out or so, and then seem to be almost a planned "Event" by tptb's/studios to get free buzz going on their new film/series
with that in mind:
"sources are saying that the CBS All Access show will be set in the classic continuity, which is to say not in the J.J. Abrams reboot-verse. Additionally, Season 1 of the series will be set before the era of The Next Generation, but after the events of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. That covers a lot of years"
so, might we possibly have something good coming our way?

http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/04/13/new-star-trek-tv-series-rumored-to-be-set-before-the-next-generation said:It sounds like the series will not be set on an Enterprise, and that it will be “heavily serialized.” Additionally, another (less reliable according to the site) rumor indicates that showrunner Bryan Fuller plans on integrating bad-guy Klingons into the show too. Old school! (Technically, the Federation would have reached détente with the Klingon Empire by this time, but hey, the galaxy is a big place. There are bound to be some hold-outs somewhere.)
And finally, it looks like the new Trek will be a seasonal anthology. Think American Horror Story, which mixes up formula, era and setting each year. That means this first season will be set pre-TNG, but next season… well, who knows? This is awesome.
Interesting (from your article link)
Im still excited. They MUST be in space most of the time. If they put the show on the ground mostly, it will be boring.
Overmind, you dumb ass, you saw it coming then you went blind again.
look like what shatner did trololololCan wetalk abouthate on the new Star Trek series coming to TV in 2017 from Alex Kurtzman and Heather Kadin this early? We might as well get started early, because given what we already know, how will it be anything less than this?:

The reason for that is the ingredients of the show. The writers are Alex Kurtzman and Heather Kadin. Click their names for their IMdB pages, and you do not see anything in there that makes for a good Trek series. That is, unless you want JJverse Trek, which is actually not the creation of JJ Abrams, but is the creation of Orci, Kurzman and Lindelov

Kurtzman and Lindelof and Orci crafted what people call the "JJverse of NuTrek". But JJ had little to do with it. This is the deeds of the "Trek" series coming out in 2017. And why did Kurtzman get this gig? Because of this:

And that is why this is going to suck. Well, This is the first in a string of troll-y, whiney Star Trek Fanboy rants I plan to spew.
