Well apparently they're going to answer the question of what happened in the missing years between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens via a Disney animated series called Resistance.

Production has begun on Star Wars Resistance, the high-flying new animated series exploring the uncharted timeframe prior to Episode VII: The Force Awakens.

Premiering this fall on Disney Channel in the U.S. and, thereafter, on Disney XD and around the world, the newest adventure series introduces viewers to a soon-to-be fan favorite new character.

Star Wars fans, meet Kazuda Xiono—a young pilot recruited by the Resistance and tasked with a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order. Xiono will be joined by the adorable BB-8 and adventure alongside ace pilots and colorful new characters, and the new series will include appearances by fan favorites, including Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma, voiced by actors Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie, respectively.

Why Captain Phasma is considered a "fan favorite" is beyond me, but whatever. :rolleye0014: At any rate, check out the link to get the full info.

All of that is to retcon/add these new characters into Star Wars lore and have them be loved and followed by the legion Star Wars fans like the original. It is a good business plan, and it might just work on SW fans because their standards are rather easy to meet. :) But the reasons they have created these new characters is for licensing and new merchandise lines. I am seeing Captain Phasma metal action figures on Disney's own website for $4.99.

Kmart and Big Lots can hardly give away Poe, Rey, Finn or the laughable Kylo Ren. Perhaps a teen fragrance named Kylo Ren might sell? :) Anyhoo, I might give this a watch.
