Just when you thought it was safe to walk through New York- Sharknado II is coming!

The Belle of the Ball
Did not bother with Sharknado one- but it was fun to see the CNN, etc... talk about it- the premise of the movie was so hilarious it got the anchors chuckling! But never fear if you missed the first one- SYFYllis has ordered- sharknado II
(CNN) -- Severe weather alert: Another "Sharknado" is blowing onto our shores.
Syfy was so pleased with the reaction to its original TV movie and how Twitter users devoured it, the network confirmed on Wednesday there will be a "Sharknado 2." This time the fictional flying sharks will be attacking the Big Apple in a film set to premiere in 2014.

This really is depressing. These movies don't even rise to the level of shlock. Seriously, there's not even any sincerity about them. They're intentionally made to be as bad as possible and the premises are just so damn cynical. It would be one thing if they were actually trying to make a scary movie that suffered from a low budget, but they're not even trying to do that. They're just throwing crap at the wall and people are stupidly lapping it up.

:smiley-laughing024: I just HAVE to add this thing to my B-movie collection. Have you seen it? LMAO! Its almost as campy as The Blob (which I have seen like 1000 times). Back in the 1970s, it was televised at Midnight every Saturday Night on Fright Night (not the movie, the show on LA Channel 9 before digital). This movie could have a cult following. :)

Folks, the movie is so bad even OUR radio presenters were panning it

OM does have a point though, it's movies like this that fuelled the career of Elvira simply for just how B grade trash they (and she) were :P

I missed the first movie, but SyFy is running it again tomorrow night. Yay! :P

EXACTLY!

The Blob was even a drive-in classic from what my dad told me. :) Not the remake, but the original. Same with the original The Thing, and Invasion of the Body Snatchers. :anim_59: But this Sharknado movie, OMG! Must see...:cameronanime06:b:happy0007:

I love the original "The Thing". I watched the remake and wondered why the hell they'd remake a movie that didn't need remaking.

I actually think they did a great job with the 1982 remake starring Kurt Russell (John Carpenter's The Thing). I'm not a fan of remakes in general but that one stands out as being an exception. The SFX were cutting edge for the time and they still hold up well today. I can actually sit thru that movie and not be bored even though it's over 30 years old.

As it is I'd love to see a quality remake of both Alien and Aliens. I say this with trepidation though as I know how easy it could be to mess these movies up. The last thing I'd want is a CGI orgy of nonsense. And I'd also hate to see Aliens remade the same as Cameron did it. Personally I thought the Ripley-Rambo thing was stupid. So was having much of that movie focus on a child. And the alien queen idea was moronic too. He should have just stuck with Ridley Scott's version (that was cut out of Alien) where the alien can reproduce on its own. At any rate, I'm sure that whenever they remake this franchise they'll mess it up and disappoint us all, but one can always hope for a miracle. :)

Wait! The 1982 version was a remake? I always thought it was the original. That's the one to which I was referring. I agree the SFX still hold up today.

The Original Thing was a space carrot which they roasted and added a light vinaigrette sauce.

The original used the full title "The Thing from another world" and was made in 1951 (before my time...really this time :)). My dad said that drive-ins across the nation showed this movie regularly and was a favorite amongst teens dating couples along with The Blob. It is still entertaining even today. As Ape said, the 1982 remake was awesome too and worthy of it's predecessor. The Blob was also remade in 1988, but that remake was campy to the point of making the movie sillier than the original made in 1958.

Did you ever see a movie called "The Stuff"? Sort of a ripoff of the blob. Made me laugh when I saw it as a kid.

I never saw it. :( One of the first Syfy movies before Syfy perhaps? A portent of things to come. :anim_59:

For crying out loud, where the hell do they get these shitty actors?? It almost seems deliberate. They get the most inept actors possible who are a step down from porn actors. I've seen fantastic amateur actors in plays and indie films. Why can't Syfylys tap those resources? Why do they insist on cardboard actors for their original movies?

Poor Brian J Smith...

brian-j-smith-280x280.jpg

He is quickly becoming typecast as a B-movie actor. If SGU had taken off, he would have had a shot at perhaps a near-leading actor. He could EASILY have filled the niche that Sam Worthington now fills in Avatar, and IMO he would have done a better job in Terminator 4 than Worthington did. But Sammy got there first..
