Perhaps people are getting tired of the long Hiatus' ??
I was watching S5 of Eureka the other day, 5 seasons, 7 YEARS in production. (and Syfy dropped their 6 ep finishing agreement)

Freaking nuts.

I never understood the reason for a long hiatus. Look at what the writers strike did to Heroes. That period of time off had people forgetting about the show. When it came back on it never recovered. And as for shows like The Sopranos or The Walking Dead -- they are exceptions to the rule, and barely passable ones at that.

The bottom line seems to be that a long hiatus doesn't help shows. At least that's my take on it.

They're going to do the hiatus thing again with the extended season. A lot of regular networks are "sort of" doing that now with their shows, with a one to two month interval between new shows. NBC had a THREE month interval during the last season of Grimm. SUCKED!

26 episode? Did I read that right? If so, why???
I expect this to be the end of the show. The 26 ep. order is to be aired in two sections, 5A & 5B
5A has aired at this point in time, and we expect 5B in 2015. I hope it's in the spring. But I also expect 5B to be the end of it.

If it's gonna end, this is nice way to do it; the writers have a very long lead time to write a good conclusion for the show.

My only real fear is that due to poor ratings for 5A, they will choose not to air 5B. Everything they're saying indicates otherwise, though.
