Wow, he was a regular fixture of Americana for two generations! Who could forget the town of Mayberry? Aunt Bee and Barney Fife? It spun off Gomer Pyle, Mayberry RFD, The Andy Griffith Show...RIP Sherrif Andy!

I wasn't a huge fan of his show, but it was so iconic (at least in the Western world) that you'd have to have been raised in a cave (and a very deep one at that) to not know the theme to the show and have the instant name recognition.

Well at least he didn't pass the way Frances Bavier a.k.a "Aunt Bea" did some years back -- being gunned down by 28 Federal Marshals after a 5 state killing spree. :sorrow:
