I’m sorry I have to come with bad news.

We were exposed to an intrusion today. It was brief and it shouldn’t impact many people, but if it impacts you, it’s very important you read the information below.

What happened?

Hackers made a modified Linux Mint ISO, with a backdoor in it, and managed to hack our website to point to it.

I can think of many reasons. I also doi not buy the idea that just a handful of people in Bulgaria would do this. Especially with Ian Murdock's mysterious death not even 6 months passed. Debian Linux is the third most used OS behind Windows and Mac worldwide. It is also the most sercure and until now, was free of government intrusion (because Ian refused to grant it). He dies mysteriously, and now Mint's installation ISO is hacked for the first time EVER? I see no logical motivation except A) Testing reaction and B) testing reach.

*chuckles* - I still got to wonder why everything is a conspiracy to you. Anyway, the only reason why I think someone would want to do this is because of how popular linux mint became popular and my guess is that someone wanted to see how they can attack linux and this is one way. Oh and here is the details on Ian's death btw.

Murdock died on 28 December 2015[11][12] in San Francisco.[13] As of 1 January 2016, no details of his cause of death have been officially released.[14][15]

The last tweets from Murdock's Twitter account first announced that he would commit suicide, then said he would not. He reported having an altercation with police, and finally declared an intent to devote his life to opposing police abuse. His Twitter account was taken down shortly afterwards.[16]

The San Francisco police confirmed he was detained, saying he matched the description in a reported attempted break-in and that he appeared to be drunk.[17][18] The police stated that he became violent and was ultimately taken to jail on suspicion of four misdemeanor counts. They added that he did not appear to be suicidal and was medically examined prior to release. Later, police returned on reports of a possible suicide. The city medical examiner’s office confirmed Murdock was found dead.[19][20]

How long have you even known about Ian Murdock's existence? Do you run Linux Mint, and have you ever run Linux Ubuntu? Do you know anything about Ian Murdock outside of Wikipedia? :)

I have to chuckle when you post propaganda designed to be swallowed by the masses which are OBVIOUSLY manipulations. :) I already know about the details that are published. I have also followed Ian's life and his projects for many years. I am the one who announced his death here, remember? Keep chuckling....Im chuckling too. :)

Relax, don't take it as an insult - It was all light heart and no ill intent was intended but you do have a habit of turning everything into a conspiracy theory and I wanted to know why. It seems like a habit of yours.

I don't know Ian Murdock personally, no, because I never met him, but the internet is full of trolls because of the anonymity of the internet who give fake death threats and/or do swatting, and or harass people online for their own amusement.
