There's honestly nothing to argue there. DS9 spent entire episodes on melodrama and feel-good stories. The O'Briens' baby, Sisko and his son sailing the solar winds, Kira and her love whateverthefuckhisnamewas.

Has anyone said DS9 did not have some melodrama??

B5 didn't dedicate entire episodes to Lennier mooning over Delenn.

Building a tapestry over several seasons a few minutes at a time spread out over random episodes is not quite the same as having entire episodes dedicated to sailing or changing diapers, dude.

I never could get into DS9, in the firehouse that show was labeled as chic trek. B5 I missed to many episodes to watch every week, what I did see told me I wasn't missing much.

From what I've read om here, be best to just watch the last season.

Methinks thou doth protest too much

Building a tapestry over several seasons a few minutes at a time spread out over random episodes is not quite the same as having entire episodes dedicated to sailing or changing diapers, dude.

Of course, things like the sailing eps (where they prove the Bajorans could have made it to Cardassia prime YEARS before Cardassians went out into space, changing the history of two planets) could have been cut out, but you would miss that bit of backstory out.
I won't deny DS9 had some filler suds, but even the suds *sometimes* had a reason.

I won't deny DS9 had some filler suds, but even the suds *sometimes* had a reason.

It could have been dealt with in about 10 minutes or less as a sub plot.

Dont get me wrong, I absolutely loved Babylon 5, but to say that you love Babylon 5 and hate DS9 is not a mutually exclusive choice. I loved them both. I found the tie into Star Trek's universe made Deep Space Nine a great addition to the franchise.

A baseless lawsuit doesn't mean it's factual. DS9 was episodic. They didn't write the entire series before hand. It was a shoot-from-the-hip series like all star treks except the writers were fascinated by the daytime soap concept.

Very little of it was episodic. Most of it was serial and the lawsuit was not baseless, since it was proven that JMS pitched the Babylon 5 story to Paramount before it was produced. Paramount rejected the script but used most of the idea (according to JMS). Its obvious to anyone who has watched both that there were distinct similarities (read: ripoff). But Babylon 5 was the pure idea and its storytelling was way better than DS9. But I loved BOTH SERIES.

Quite a bit of it was episodic. The only part I found was serial to some degree was the Dominion war. However, except for a few milestone episodes where something major happened, the episodes during the Dominion war could be run in any order without losing your place in the events. It would be nearly impossible to run B5 in any order without completely confusing the entire story.
