The New Voyages fan film team just released a new episode titled "The Holiest Thing". Some thoughts on it:
- It has the Enterprise partly refitted and looking sort of half like it did in Star Trek The Motion Picture. I did not totally understand this as it made it hard for me to place the episode timeline wise.
- Their new Kirk (James Cawley stepped down) is a bit too "kid" like for my tastes, but he tries well.
- The new Spock is MUCH better, and probably the best Spock on the fan films. He has the right cadence and mannerisms which make him sound and feel authentic.
The story is not bad. I think it has some canon issues such as having first contact occur with the Ferengi (which previously had occurred in the TNG episode "The Last Outpost"). Also the chemistry between the Kirk actor and Carol Marcus actress was just not there. But overall it is a worthy piece of work.
