I will apologise first and say that, I have not read the last four pages, but I will say this.
What this all comes down to, again, is a big old conflict of interest between the older fans and the newer fans. There is an ugly fact that the older fans will eventually and literally, die off, and if these franchises are to stay around they must CHANGE and evolve. This creates the situation of said conflict of interest. Many older fans will scream, "Let my franchise die before it is so convulted!", and many will scream from the rooftops with joy that it still exists in it's new form. The new fans will either love the change, not care or simply hate it.
Sadly, they are making these shows for the masses and not just the old loyal fans.
Are they going to make drastic changes? Yes, absolutely. Will they claim they are still honouring the old while selling the new, for certain. Is this fair? Well, that is something that really could be seen as both fair and unfair. It really all depends on the perspective you are looking at this from. If you are an old fan and you hate the changes, no, this would be unfair to you. If you are a old fan and more tolerable or even like the new version, then yes, that is fair enough to you. If you are a new fan, and you don't like it, you simply don't care, and so fair to an extent. If you are a new fan and you like it, you are super happy you get to have a chance to enjoy the franchise and you are sooo calling this fair.
I won't make any judgement calls just yet. I will watch it, and I will keep an open mind. I really don't care if the Klingons look different or not. Let's remember the main reason of the simplicity of TOS was that they had no ability to have the CGI and advanced make-up techniques we have. TNG, Voygaer, DS9 and Enterprise just played around with the aliens noses and foreheads because they had limited resources. Farscape lived on body paint ( which made the blue chick quite sick and why she eventually quit). Back in TOS and original BSG it was all about wardrobe.
This is just ST 2009 all over again and for that matter, BSG. Look, I liked NuBSG too, and I know it was completely weird to have a female Starbuck and a billion other things. I also know that it was sooooo different from BSG original, but so what? It kept the franchise alive and there is always a chance yet another will rise from the ashes and that is makes me happy. BSG, ST, and SG will just fade away if the new fans are not catered too. They are simply not going to make the franchises they way they used to be because they all got cancelled in those forms. Those movies stopped making enough money and quite frankly, the generations of fans today need more tech, more glizt, more CGI and that's what they will get. They are also the generation of reality TV making nobodys into stars. They love this shit, they have short attention spans and Kodi and spend most of their time in some form, online looking into the latest new craze. Hollywood is also touchy feely and they are controlling the wheel to this ship. I do wonder about how much political correct bullshit will be shoved into our faces on this latest one. Nothing much to be done to stop any of it. So, bring on the evolution and let's see what comes out of the cocoon.
Or not. If you are happy to let them die, then don't watch and just keep your memories in your mind of your old shows. This is inevitable. I tried to get my daughter to watch the older ST TOS with us, she was bored senseless. She can also barely stand Voyager and TNG. Yet, she does very much enjoy the movies of JJ ST. Without the people of her generation, the franchise dies. This is a done deal.
