OMG, why do so many people hate Highlander 2? I liked it. I loved the original Highlander, but I also liked Highlander 2. People loved Terminator 2, but hated Terminator 3? I liked T1, T2 and also T3. Hated T4.

I wasn't crazy about T3, either. T1 was great but T2 stands out as an epic achievement. It conveyed the hopelessness of a bleak, inevitable future to a masterful degree. This is what really put Cameron on the map. Then he went all looney and made Avatar and has decided to remain an Avatar sequel machine.
I know...I get that everywhere. I liked it just the same.
You didnt even mention T3! Youre a T3 H8TR like all the rest. . What is it about T3 that everybody hates so much?

Just "I wasnt crazy about T3"? No clever remark about it? No commentary? It filled in a necessary part of the canon...the moment the machines turned on humans. Judgement Day itself. I would be okay with a remake using a different Terminator. I liked the introduction of Katherine Brewster.
It did fill the canon but that's all it was, filler. It wasn't executed in the same manner as T1 and T2. I found it corny, incoherent and felt like it was slapped together kind of last-minute. Arnold phoned in his performance and the cast was mismatched. They didn't bring back Edward Furlong and Linda Hamilton turned down her part in the original script because her character arc was not evolving and was too similar to T2, hinting that the script was already poorly written. It was just a badly made movie.
Aliens is an military scifi action film with horror overtones. Alien is horror with scifi overtones. So two different genres, and both films are effective in their genres. And yes Aliens reflected James Cameron's views on Vietnam but I would note that most of the Marines problems stemmed from an inexperienced CO who made a VERY bad tactical decision. And their morale did not break even after the fiasco in the power plant.
Overall, Aliens was respectful of the Marines and gave pretty much all of them heroic ends - even Lt. Gorman whose bad decision caused the whole problem got to go out heroically. This is in direct contrast to the drivel known as "Avatar".
