Get Woke, go broke is a familiar refrain amongst those of us who do not count themselves as social justice warriors (SJWs). And from the numbers standpoint, non-SJWs are a vastly larger number than the SJWs, commanding most of the consumer revenues available to companies selling products, services or entertainment. Still, companies continue to pander to a fraction of the population in order to virtue signal and appear "woke.
Here at GateFans, I think one of the first elements of "wokeness" came from Stargate Universe, when the writers decided that the cast needed to change from traditionally minded over-30 actors with experience, to unknown and relatively inexperienced Millennial teens wearing their street clothes and being hip. And while they were at it, they thought that concentrating on interpersonal drama was more important than using the Stargate which should have been the core reason for the show to exist. They even changed the core focus away from the stargate and made it about a ship named Destiny. Cool, huh? Yeah, no.
Since then, we have seen this happen with Star trek, then Star Wars. In the gaming industry with Battlefield V, they decided to put a women in World War II with a claw hand who takes down Nazis. This, in a game which is supposed to be historically accurate. It bombed spectacularly
The going brokeness is in full force in the movie industry with Captain Marvel, Ghostbusters 2016, Oceans 8, and of course, Star Wars, the entire sequel trilogy. Star Trek went full SJW woke far far left into the leftist universe.
Getting woke is easy, because all these moronic companies have to do is read twitter and Facebook and ramp up the filters on YouTube and they will have a steady streak of woke agendas which are really only important to about 4% of the consumers they want to reach. This strategy is costing entire franchises MILLIONS of dollars. Gillette lost 8 BILLION dollars of it's value trying to go woke. Star Wars Episode IV is probably going to lose money, but it isn't just because of going woke, it is also because Disney thinks they can change the fundamental premise of Star Wars and profit from it because it has the Star Wars name and a signature look. The failure of Galaxy's Edge has show how broke things can get.
How many thing will have to go broke before the SJW agenda is exposed for being a social fad not followed by that many people?
