Here's the latest trailer for Marvel's Black Panther movie. I was looking forward to it but this clip shows a hell of a lot more CGI than I initially thought it would have. Even the Panther suit is CGI in some spots. Still, it might be okay. Who knows.

I'm not sure whether I'm gonna like this. I don't like the trailer much. Don't like the music in the trailer. From what I can gather so far there might be too much machismo going around for my taste. Then there seems to be some kind of interdimensional travel going on if I saw that correctly. I'll have to wait and see, perhaps I'll be pleasantly surprised by Marvel. I must note that I am completely unfamiliar with the black panther character aside from what I saw of him in that captain america movie. What's the deal with this guy, is he from Africa or from some other planet?

He has been around since 1966, and his name was his before there was ever an American Black Panther Party or Black Panther activists. He was even a member of The Avengers. It's complicated:

Apparently Black Panther is breaking all kinds of records. At least according to some article I read yesterday. Seems the movie is attracting above average crowds of black people. In itself perhaps not surprising for a big budget movie with a huge black cast. Still I find that peculiar. It's a superhero movie which generally attract fans of superhero movies. What I "read" from this is that there is a significant group of black people who like superhero movies, but preferably if they star black actors. Or maybe I'm drawing an incorrect conclusion. Maybe it's about the culture instead of the people. I've never considered watching a superhero movie based on the skin colour of the actors. For me, if it's Marvel it's bound to be good. Then again, there's not a lot of superhero movies out there starring black people, relatively speaking, so perhaps it is a novelty thing?

There are no black superhero movies except Panther who are on the level of the others. Not in X-Men or DC either, and there never had been. This is no surprise to me at all. All black heroes these blacks had were sports figures and sci-fi characters.

You might never have thought about skin color but the studios and majority white audiences sure did. That is why this is just breaking in 2018. He has been Panther since 1966.

I should also mention Hancock...

The problem with both these films is that they perpetuate the inner city/ghetto stereotype of blacks in the US. Panther deviates significantly from that in the fact that he is not only African, he is royalty. The US film industry would not dare with such a bold movie in say...2002, and frankly I am pleasantly surprised to see it in 2018, considering the social climate here in the US right now.

I may actually go see this one. I've been fighting a sense of "superhero film burnout". I did watch and really enjoy Wonder Woman but nothing else has really sparked my interest. I don't count Guardians 2 because for some reason the two GotG films don't feel like superhero films to me. I think I have been trying to find things a bit more eclectic of late - hence digging up films like Lifeforce

So I finally got around to seeing Black Panther. It's a fine movie. Not at all as hiphoppy/gangsta as I had expected from seeing the trailer, which was a relief. I wasn't blown away in any way however. That initial bad guy with the "missing" arm was a joke. All in all it was a good introduction to Black Panther, putting the character on the map in the MCU. I know we've seen the character in a previous movie, but he was more of a side character there and seemed a bit out of place until this movie came along. According to Rotten Tomatoes the movie scores 4.1/5 for audience and also 8.2/10 (which is the exact same score), although I don't understand these two different ratings and how they relate to a score of 96%, perhaps someone could explain that. And IMDB says 7.6/10. I have to say I agree. I would give the movie about 8/10, so I guess I'm in-line with the average viewer on this one.

Just read the news that Chadwick Boseman passed away yesterday. What a sad thing. Only 43 years old. May he rest in peace.

The movie had wide-ranging appeal. Boseman can't easily be recast. He shouldn't be recast. They could just pass the Black Panther mantle to a different character who is not T'Challa. They would have to set it up in the comics first. Wow, 43 years old. That's harsh.

The only person I can think of to try to cast as T'Challa is Chiwetel Ejiofor. He has the acting chops to bring it off.

I feel they shouldn't recast the character. If they must, then just have him in the black panther suit in every scene, not without the mask.

The only person I can think of to try to cast as T'Challa is Chiwetel Ejiofor. He has the acting chops to bring it off.

He should not be recast. T'Challa is only Boseman, and I think they should just pass the Blank Panther moniker to a new King, but not as T'Challa. They need to sort it out in the comics too in order to facilitate it.

another sjw scene--very subtle.. was when they took Vision to WAKANDA to have his stone removed

the Wakandan scientist-a woman too-- is very condescending to the 'dumb' white scientists who couldn't figure out how to remove the stone

very similar to how kids shows on nickelodeon used to make the adult characters look like buffoons while the kids figured everything out
