I think when I watched this a while back I did have mixed feelings. Tom did not a bad job especially the portrayal of a beaten down individual who has constantly been through the same loop over and over again. Everything else like the action was good, bit too much of the shaky cam when fighting the aliens who look like walking writhing black spaghetti, called mimics but don't actually mimic anything on this planet.........right.
I guess some of my issues come from the practical stand point. Firstly you have exo suits which while they enhance the strength of the wearer but do little int he way of protection for the individual or the components. This is like building a tank only with none of the armor plates that protect the vital parts.
The invasion is probably one of the most stupid aspects I have seen. Yes they were trying to do a futuristic D-Day landing, but it doesn't make any sense. Did the last 80 years of warfare and military strategy prove anything? So they go in both aircraft (slow moving helicopters compared to high altitude aircraft) and landing craft in the middle of day light. Do they not presume the enemy doesn't have any kind of long range radar? Or any kind of detection devices considering the aliens having been fighting for the past 6 years.
So for some reason the military of the future doesn't know what a fast jet is, like the A10 or F18 or even what artillery, or even naval weaponry like tactical nuclear missiles from submarines or cruise missiles. Hooray for future technology, bringing us closer...........to the enemy.
As an action movie it did the job, it was interesting or held my interest. The time travel thing did get a little silly considering the plot hole since the aliens know how to control it, meaning why didn't one Alpha just commit suicide if something went wrong to reset the day.
Hollywood always "edits" the military and its capabilities and tactics/techniques to fit the script.
Use this example and apply it to everything else you see Hollywood/liberals in general do with their handling of the military--
I have not seen it yet, but I hear that many critics pan AMERICAN SNIPER as being inaccurate and showing a "fantasy" of how deployed service members can be in nearly constant and or steady contact with their family members--that is showing Chris Kyle talking to his wife from the battlefield on a cell phone
Yes!!! This capability does exist and is fully utilised by nearly every deployed service member--cell ph, sat phones, internet (the military and their families just may be the single largest user group of SKYPE) connections do very well exist either through commercial contracted service or through military switchboards in theatre
BUT,this does not fit the narrative of the deployed lonely soldier cut off from contact with family, becoming a murderous sociopath JUST BECAUSE he/she cannot talk to their loved ones
It enrages many on the left when they use this in their talking points and are then proved wrong--if someone stands up to them that is
So, take this one example and apply as a type of "plug it in formula" for nearly anything to do with the military and Hollywood/liberal beliefs
