Starz announced today two new original series projects in development.
".......As part of Starz overall deal with "Spartacus" creator Steven S. DeKnight, Starz is developing "Incursion," an epic science fiction action-thriller that follows a squad of soldiers caught in a war against a hostile alien race. Each season the battle will be fought on a new, exotic planet as humanity punches deeper into enemy territory. Grittily realistic combat, darkly complex characters and intrigue on a cosmic scale will permeate the tale of fighting men and women facing the pressures of war and an enemy unlike any ever seen....."
The above sure sounds like the earlier description of what Blood and Chrome was meant to turn out.
yeah now that you mention it.....
Between the "premiums" a few cable channels (BBCA,etc) and NETFLIX, I think we just might see some good stuff before we grow gray and too decrepit to work the remote
And why shouldn't an org like Netflix be doing these productions regardless of the genre? it's not like they are going to lose $7/month subscribers over an original production; "Well HOUSE OF CARDS sucks so I am saying screw access to thousands of streaming movies and shows (because of one orig production)" Not going to happen-the bulk of their content and the benefit of having it far outweighs any mistakes they may make in original programming
And they are not making mistakes either. I have not watched them, but apparently both LILLYHAMMER and HOUSE OF CARDS are doing extremely well. HOUSE OF CARDS lists on NETFLIX menu in the 'most popular on netflix' and 'trending on FB' menu's. It also appears freq on general ROKU 'banner ads'
I know this may be getting old, but IMO the offer by NETFLIX to those SG fan groups( to explore producing a SG show/movie) is a sign that netflix is paying attention to a dying genre (dying due to lack of good stuff not lack of fans) sci fi, and feel that they can make a mark in its resurrection. With a lack of big studio interest, I am sure that people like the Wachowski's and Strac, others are more then willing to work with NETFLIX. The actors they have attracted at netflix so far are no slobs either (Kevin Spacey and Steven Van Zandt).
