What might a new Star Trek series look like in the REAL Prime Timeline?

Regardless of anything they bring to the screen , new Spock , Picard , what ever , I will never watch it .

;)

yeah...
my wife and I want our kids to hopefully "wow" us with something they do... and that something is not putting on a re-enactment of the lives of me and the wife

translation-- TPTBs of this ST stuff..drop it and put your creative energy into something truly new and entertaining that IS NOT Trek badly re-done

I have been rather quiet about Star Trek, even the ranting. I have been doing lots of reading and lots of viewing of videos from Mecharandom42, Doomcock, Nerdrotic, GeeksandGamers, Comicbookpro Secrets, Midnight's Edge and others. I have made some calls to people I know in the Industry. I have to say, there is very little you can find out these days by pulling strings. I need to know somebody who is involved in the show on the legal side of the equation to get a picture of what will happen next, and I just don't have that type of connection right now. Why talk about that? Because I want tp speculate a little bit.

Star Trek Discovery Season 3

"The massive success"? HAHAHAHA! I want proof. From all indications, Star Trek Discovery is a massive failure. The Star Trek fanbase has all but left the building, or gone over to The Orville and rejected Star Trek for good. Michelle Paradise, the new "co-showrunner" (she is really there to make Kurtzman take the bench for Season 3), is just as useless an addition to Star Trek Discovery as Kurtzman was. This is her writing resume from IMdB

Science fiction stories? = ZERO

Here are her Producer credits from IMdB

Science fiction productions? = ZERO

Chance that anything she comes up with will appeal to cerebral Star Trek fans? = ZERO. Whatever they are making and calling Star Trek may just find an audience, but it will have nothing to do with the 50-year fandom of the real thing. The reboot movies and Discovery have done so much damage to Star Trek, it will be a daunting thing to repair it. The good thing is that everything Star Trek from 2009 forward is so much different than Star Trek that it could be considered non-canon and I doubt anyone in the fandom would protest. Pick things up post-Nemesis. Let Picard rest, or give him cameos in a future Star Trek (canon) as Admiral Picard. No Section 31 show, and none of the actors from Discovery. Bad Robot/Secret Hideout need to be completely removed from the formula.

Its a stark contrast to The Original Series where they made sure to hire science fiction writers.

I really don't know how Kurtzman etc have successful careers. They don't seem intelligent enough to understand anything. I understand Trek and its characters better than them and I'm just a fan.

I tell you though, if I ever bothered to write fan fiction it would be new stories and new characters not the rehashing of characters and stories based on past canon stories. That just screams amateurish to me.

Although Kurtzman seems to be doing that too with the mirror universe and introducing Pike and Spock. Fan wanking to cover poor storytelling.

I have said the bolded many times here. :) Intelligence is a huge factor in writing good science fiction. That, and a basic understanding about scientific principles. Science fiction is an extrapolation of science in a fictional way. You cannot come from fantasy and end up with science fiction. And like you, I know Star Trek canon and the characters WAY better than anyone associated with Star Trek Discovery. Also more than JJ Abrams. Many Star Trek fans can say that.

I hear you Overmind One. I know Star Trek canon backwards and forwards. I've been thinking about trying to watch more episodes of STD. Give it another bash. Its strange how unmotivated I am to watch the rest of it though. That's never happened with any other Trek series before. I miss when Star Trek made me think.

YES. At the very least, it deserves that. I plan to start sequentially from Season 1 and do each episode as a video review if possible. I am working on a YouTube presence for this place.

Yea. I've been thinking about starting from the beginning of season one too. I've watched half that season and I can't for the life of me remember any of the episodes. That's never really happened with Star Trek before either Overmind One.

A You Tube presence would be interesting. It was You Tube after all that brought me to this site. I might try to watch some episodes tomorrow. I wouldn't bother with a video review myself because I hate being on camera.

Me too. That's why I will not actually be on the video (no face). Something sorta like Midnight's Edge does it.

Cool. Well good luck with it Overmind One. It will be interesting to watch.

The past month or so, I have been researching what can and cannot be used in videos under Fair Use as well as YouTube's policies. More than a few of my favorite YouTube scifi channels have been hit with copyright strikes, usually for using video clips. I think screenshots are okay, but I need to be sure. The technical side of it is ready already.

I wonder where that would leave the likes of Mr Plinkett? His videos wouldn't work without clips.

He is being left alone for now. And it is actually Red Letter Media. I am not a fan of their videos because they are so long winded and droning in my opinion. However, their reviews are VERY clip heavy. If CBS or Paramount wanted any of those videos taken down, they could come down in a heartbeat.

RedLetterMedia is an acquired taste. Yes their videos are long but what you get is a detailed dissection from the perspective of people schooled in drama and screenwriting. That detail is packaged in a pretty lowbrow comedy schtick package and yes some of the Plinkett jokes are disgusting.

Of their content I like Best of the Worst the most. They also made a movie titled Space Cop that is a hoot.

As to STD that TV Guide article already got blasted from multiple quarters. CBS deliberately used the dates when All Access was also showing NFL playoff games live to boost the numbers - a number of commentators with inside sources have said the real internals show that about 150,000 subscribers actually view STD.

I have heard similar from my source, without the actual number. I was told that Discovery was "underperforming", and that the budget for it "was a problem". Beyond that, I could extrapolate that Season 3 will have a smaller budget. Doomcock's video says that merchandise licensing has come to a standstill, which means that projected earnings related to merchandise will not be available. A quick internet search brought up basically nothing in terms of widely available merchandise. There are t-shirts and mugs, but just about everybody has that stuff.

Mikey Spock is the bestest ever!

I would be more enthusiastic in my hatred of Sexually Transmitted Disease, but Dingleberry was an anti-Semitic drunk who did not know much about science fiction, much less science. Dingleberry used to have sex with actresses with his office door open so that people could watch him have sex. Dingleberry would be a utopian free love socialist when he was speaking at conventions but was a gin-swilling crony capitalist pig in real life.
