Doctor Who star Matt Smith has reportedly been treated for minor head injuries after celebrating the end of filming the current series.

Smith, according to The Sun, had to have three stitches at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, as a result of cutting his head when he fell on his way back to his flat after a night out.

A BBC insider said: "Matt tripped over, hit his head and sustained a minor head cut.

"He went to A&E as a precaution. He is very, very clumsy so nobody will be surprised."

The 28-year-old is said to have come a cropper after celebrating with his co-stars over the weekend as they put the final episode of Doctor Who to bed.

Glad it wasn't too serious.

If there is a scar, see if Moffat can work it into a story line.

How much do you love the phrase "come a cropper" in this? ;)
TBH, I never heard such phrase before and thought it may be popular in Wales alone, however after reading the history of said phrase, maybe it's not as unique as first thought - its origin dates back to 1791 with original phrase, "neck and crop" from the slang of 18th Century of when one falls off a horse, specifically, when one falls off the "Croup" of the horse i.e. the rump. The phrase may have derived further back from a 16th Century phrase, "neck and heels" and thus the phrase, "head over heels" may have its origins from and thus have a similar meaning. And finally, it wasn't 'til 1859 that the phrase, "neck and crop" morphed into "Cropper" and its variations, "come a cropper" or "to go a cropper" meaning, to fall badly.

Fascinating stuff, love the English language and how it's ever changing. Take note SGU writers about evolution of English language - observe not only the pace in the space of 300 years, but consider 2000 years.
