We all know there are MANY low budget and fan made films out there that are just terrible!
Funny thing is, most of these overuse SFX tech to try and compensate for the poor story and writing
But sometimes you find something that is the other way around; little to no SFX used but a great story.. almost hard to beleive you are watching Sci Fi giventhe lack of flash,pew pew and sfx gimmicks
which ones do you know of or have watched?
I have two. one i posted about ears ago but will include it again, the other is new
1- THE ENDLESS
so low budget, i think they may have actually shot it on a cell ph! But it has, imo, a great story and premise, good writing and pretty good acting.Al add up to an entertaining watch that takes a few turns away from the predictable

2- THE PENITENT MAN
A time travel, worm hole using story where we mainly have two characters. Lance Henriksson stars as the traveler who comes through time to try to explain some things.
""Dr. Jason Pratt is at a crossroads with his life. When one of his clients, the mysterious Mr. Darnell, walks into his office and paints him a repentant tale of future economic and moral collapse, Jason's eyes are forever opened."
I believe there was one brief scene with any SFX used.. but still a great sci fi story
