There needs to be some humor. I found Man of Steel to be rather dark and dry and boring. Some humor would have made it more palatable.

Depends on the humor, the trend of lowbrow equivalent of the "fart jokes" of late make me groan. Some highbrow snark would be nice, alas the majority of American will probably not 'get it'.

As someone commented in the link it was probably the horrible "humor" employed by Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern that now gives DC movie producers pause.

Really? I found the entire movie hilarious. My wife had me rolling on the floor when she asked, about 1/2 way through movie, "So, when does this movie start?"

You would think DC would look at the formula followed by this year #1 domestic box-office film - Guardians of the Galaxy. Namely a healthy dose of humor for the heroes and villains played dead straight.
