Yes, they announced they will now be making original movies for simo releace on Netflix and in theatres

much like they do with the Dusk to Dawn series; near sync release on flix and on that obscure hispanic network

the first movie is to be a CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON sequel:

The people who are drawn to Netflix are trying to eliminate the theater. It makes no sense.

Sure it does. Netflix has nothing to lose by pimping out a movie to theaters they are also offering for free to their subscribers. That's friggin' genius! I'd say as genius as selling bottled water.

Ahhh...the financial angle. Releasing to theaters at the ridiculously high prices the studios get would be a FORTUNE to the relatively low overhead of Netflix. That money could continue to fund more movies and perhaps series? If Firefly is ever going to return, Netflix is the one who will bring it back. I dont even care if Nathan Fillion is in it. That premise and the style of the show could be a staple for them for years to come. They have a huge viewing habits database, they know what people are watching most, and they are PERFECTLY positioned for it. Touche!

maybe there was some stipulation to get the actors and film crew ppl they wanted that they had to agree to release it in theatres to appease the film industry?

Nah. That doesn't "appease" the film industry. There are plenty of movies that go straight to DVD. The choice of making a theatrical release is purely $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
