In a video announcement Thursday on Discovery Channel, "MythBusters" hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman revealed that longtime co-hosts and fan favorites Kari Byron, Grant Imahara, and Tory Belleci are no longer on the show.

"This next season we're going back to our origins with just Adam and me," Hyneman said in the video, which explained that the change took hold as of the season's last episode on August 21.

Someone also commented that the next season will be the last ever mythbusters in the comment section.

The comment looks like an unsourced rumor.

That said, I do wonder if they are scaling down in preparation for winding up the series on their own terms. Going by their ComicCon presentation the plan is to do fewer myths but spend more time on each one, laying out in greater detail the experiments and such. Sort of how they did it prior to when the Build Team did their own myths.

I would guess production costs, and after 10 years not much to bust in the myth department, same as Dirty Jobs.

Once again another quality show will be cancelled and they'll replace it with some other junk. Mythbusters wasn't just about busting myths, it had a strong science presence which made it fun to watch

I think it's down to budget cuts. The ratings for mythbusters haven't been that stellar. Not to mention, the send off video wasn't done by the trio but by Adam and Jamie which probably means they were extremely angry at discovery and it came as a shock to them. It was also a shock to jamie and adam. I miss dirty jobs too.

Mike Rowe was stunned and none too happy when Discovery cancelled Dirty Jobs. He's now working on a show that'll be on CNN called "Somebody's Gotta Do it" (paraphrasing). There were still plenty of dirty jobs out there left to do.

I'm thinking that this was Discovery's idea to can the Trio of Terror. I think the show is still going very well and may survive the cuts just fine. As for last night's airline boarding show, it aired in Australia a year or two ago (really).
