Google puts individuals in a "Bubble", gives different search results

Google cannot be counted on to give you the same results as the person sitting next to you. Why? Because Google has been aggregating your search terms, the websites you go to, the sites you spend most time on, and then changes the results to closer match the things your history suggests that you like.

How thoughtful! NOT. I have done this experiment using DuckDuckGo which is now my main search engine. This video tells you how Google is doing this:

Which is one of many reasons why I use DuckDuckGo too. I value my privacy some and don't need Google to tell me what I like.

I have a big big problem with them knowing what I like at all. What's next, I go into a restaurant and my dinner has already been ordered for me based on my past meals? I still take issue with seeing ads for things on THIS site that I previously was looking at on Amazon. If I go to Hostgator's website right now to look at web packages, when I come here the ads will all be Hostgator. Same with Amazon. I shop there, then come here and one or more of the items I was looking at will be the ads.

I was using Torch on Windows 8 which is an AWESOME browser. I love the torrent and video townloader integrated into it. But it DOES store history, even if it does not track it. I do not want my history stored, and there is no way to turn it off. Same with Iron, Chromium and all of the browsers based on Chromium. Firefox, however, can be set to never remember any history. It does not store it, so you do not have to go in settings and clear history. Also, with the easy addition of NetVideoHunter, I have added in the video downloading capability from the browser. Torrents already open Transmission which is the Linux torrent client built into Ubuntu.

I am no longer using Windows as my primary OS, not because of fear or security concerns so much as because Ubuntu has everything I need without me having to say "Damn, I need Outlook", or "I need to use Office". I can even play my games in Linux. Besides that, Windows and Mac can both be run in Linux as virtual machines.

I have also started to use duckduckgo myself, but google is still gives more accurate search results. I hate to say this, but this is the truth. Nevertheless, I am slowly phasing google out. I also have do not track installed to block fucking google being a creepy fucking stalker it is, knowing where I go. When you use their apps, you got to "login" to either download it or use it. That's one of the reasons why I haven't installed a google app on my phone. None of their business. It maybe paranoid, but I value my privacy. It's the least I could say about most people who are okay to have their information taken away without their will or consent.

Recently, I have ran into people who are okay with the Police/NSA/Secret Service been given extra powers to snoop everything from stuff they shouldn't have access to without a warrant. They seem to be okay that the government can see their most intimate details with their partners/their secrets what they download, where they have been, their family members, because they clearly have nothing to hide...Right...I am sure you don't want any stranger knowing your secrets, or what you where you been before, or your password, or your PIN, or your real name.

People think that there won't be abuse when the secret service take our stuff but how many times have we seen stuff that's sensitive been abused? This maybe paranoia, but what X-Files says is true. Trust no 1.

The CIA especially loves to keeps telling people that it is to keep them safe, but we all know that's not the case. When has the stuff been taken without our consent/knowledge/warrant even though we haven't done anything wrong, just labels everyone a criminal i.e. potential criminal. It's a guilty until proven innocent stance. The secret service know damn well it can get away with what they do; that is why they are doing it.

If an individual were to do this, he/she would face charges, be called a traitor but it's okay for the secret service to do it, because they are keeping us safe...RIIIGHHT!!!

Be in control or at least have some control of your private information.Don't let others abuse it.

I feel this same way about Facebook and Twitter too. People are actually losing jobs, being investigated and being sued over things they put on Twitter and Facebook. Whenever somebody does something wrong or controversial, the first place the media looks is on Facebook and Twitter for dirt. Google may not share your information publicly, but they share it with advertisers and retailers, and also the government (when requested). Microsoft is worse, because they make products which are pre-compromised for the NSA and tell you that they are protecting you.

I dont want Google. Microsoft or anybody tracking me like some damned marked caribou. I do not appreciate having my search results and advertising "customized" because Google has been sniffing around in my underwear drawer and they know the style and brand I buy. I use a false birthdate online when registering sites which require it. And on that day, I get DOZENS of emails from companies I have never heard of, wishing me a happy birthday, and offering me the "gift" of a discount on something they are selling.

One way around using Facebook is to have a fake name. Facebook may not like, but it can go fuck itself. Anyone using facebook should delete their account permanently and start off fresh with a fake name - that is if you want to still use facebook. As soon as I found out that facebook was snooping into my email contact list, I bailed. It was asking me to add people I had exchanged emails with. Like WTF? Then again, I am sure facebook doesn't delete the profiles permanently.

I have wanted to install a fresh clean version of linux for a long time, but I can't work without word/excel. Two of the best programs that microsoft has evermade. Plus, I game on PC too and as of right now, linux only has stupid childish indie games albeit a few more 'mature' indie titles, but that still won't make me convert.

I know google and others sell my private information. It answers why I get so much spam in my spam folder, and how google just happens to know it's spam.

i want to setup an email server for myself, but I don't have a spare computer at the moment.

Oh man...did you read my Linux Freedom thread? http://www.gatefans.net/gforums/threads/linux-is-true-freedom-in-the-cyber-world.27417/

You most certainly CAN work without Word and Excel, and if you must use them you CAN install them with PlayOnLinux or Wine or just install Windows in VMware or VirtualBox. Games? I posted that information too. I have Starcraft II, Diablo III, Grand Theft Auto, Path of Exile, and they play glitch free and in fullscreen mode without any compromises. :) You can install all of the latest games on Linux.

I would be happy to video a demo of game playing on Linux. I use Word and Excel and MS Access on Windows running in a virtual machine in Unity mode (apps open on Linux desktop but are running on the virtual machine which is hidden). Evolution replaces Outlook and has MORE features than Outlook does. Believe me, there is nothing much you cannot do in Linux these days. And it is also true that you can do MORE in Linux than in Windows or OSX.
