This is what happens when I apply logic to SGU

I feel like a rant, or an observational rant I should say, I've been up for roughly 28 hours I am very tired!

The Destiny, is it just me or is the design and setup of the ship makes no sense what so ever. But let's first of all look into the past, the ship was made roughly 50 million years ago, sent out for the crew to embark on a later date when the ship has made it into the unknown, ok first of all when did the ancients plan to get on board? 10 years, 100 perhaps? No they waited for just under 50 million years, one wraith war later and oops! they ascended. Who does that? More importantly cultures advance over periods of time, so waiting even one hundred years and the ship you've sent out has now become obsolete, the Destiny wasn't even made during the height of the ancients exploring our galaxy either. So when did they plan to embark on the Destiny? Were they researching into ascension for 50 million years?

OK now function, so you've built a ship, sent it out, you put a master code only on some of the systems? Who else were you expecting on that ship? Lets explore the two logical options, first one don't have a master lock out. The first does make sense because with the ships shield and automated weapon systems there is no chance of the ship being boarded by hostile or overly curious aliens, secondly since the ancients put a stargate on the ship they were the only ones to access it directly without hindrance. Option two, the master lock out code locks out every single system on the ship, EVERYTHING. If the ancients were bothered about aliens invading the ship then why leave such critical systems like life support to be accessed by a bunch of aliens, who don't understand your written language to be fucking around with such a vital system!

The weapon systems, ok, this is an aesthetic displeasure but seriously look at the anti fighter turrets they look like something made during the 19th century or something I swear I saw rivets on them, also why does the destiny a massive vessel have an under-slung fixed triple barreled heavy weapons platform? What the hell were they thinking? Taking out heavy orbital space installations while besieging a planet? Also during that episode when it was introduced, I was like 'what main gun? When did they have a main gun?'

The tension creator I mean clock, again why? Why would the ancients place a giant clock in the gate room. If the ancients were on board then they would have complete access to the ships systems meaning they were in control of it, so why would they need a count down?

The FTL drive again people have mentioned this before, but seriously have they mentioned how long it takes them to travel from one end of the galaxy to another? More importantly how long does it take to cross the void between galaxies? We need to know! Oh yes also the Ancients, the far less advanced ones I will mention, developed a shield which is capable of withstanding the intense heat and gravity inside a star. I guess they will never need that technology again, I mean being able to recharge your ship with an ever lasting power supply who needs that right? Also when one of the engines was malfunctioning, they call in a hyperspace expert to help fix the ship. The ship doesn't use hyperspace technology so why would you call in a hyperspace expert to a technology which no one clearly understands, and the solution they came up with, any freaking idiot could have suggested just remove the nackard one.

The first episode didn't really make much sense either, the ships life support was failing ok I accept that, however the air is being drained out through several gaping holes in the ships hull and the shield protects against intense heat and gravity distortions but doesn't keep in air (oh wait yes it does and it doesn't! Wait what?). So the question is, was the ship losing air before the team arrived? Because if it was then it would have ran out of air long before they even arrived.

When I heard the mention of aliens within the show I was expecting something way more, something more obscure, something truly alien. The creators don't know what truly alien is, because for some reason the aliens have so many things in common us with humans! For example they breathe oxygen! What are the odds of that?! They are bipedal, they have fingers, they have corridors, the breathe through their mouths. God, fucking, damn it. More importantly when Young switched bodies, why was he seeing in 'normal human vision' shouldn't he be tripping out, good thing they breathe exactly like us or he would be on the floor not knowing what the hell is going on? Oh so now they have the same brain chemistry as us, because their neurological implants are compatible with us.

The Kino's, ok, I understand some of their design, they give readings like atmospheric conditions and are a visual aid. However why stop there. For a ship on a long journey things are going to break, and you will need to replace them, this means finding materials and being able to manufacturer them. A function would be nice, is if these floating big brother diary room moments be programed to seek out minerals and other materials needed, just saying make sense wouldn't it? And by the way THAT IS NOT FUCKING NIGHT VISION ELI YOU TWAT, it is thermal imaging, there is a difference, which brings a question why is there only two vision modes on the kino, shouldn't the design be modular so you can easily equip different sensors (like the one suggested above for geological things)?

The design of the earth people, why are some people in desert camo patterns while others in black? When entering a desert planet the last thing you should wear is black. Why is it just the USMC and USAF? Why when unlocking the 9th chevron is it just a US only operation, compared to Atlantis expedition which was multinational? Why weren't the people who were supposed to board the destiny already stationed at the Icarus base? Why did telford get in an F302? Didn't they have enough pilots? Again why do they insist on using the useless rail guns, to shoot down incoming aircraft, the military have made a vast number of anti aircraft missiles, using a direct fire weapon while friendly aircraft are in the target zone screams incompetence and any lack of military advisement.

Why did the Lucien Alliance bombard the Icarus base? They must of known that any kind of explosion on the planet would be very unwise as it may explode (referring back to why the hammond didn't fire its beam weapons). If they wanted to invade the base, then why bombard it? It makes no sense, surely they would want the base intact right, so they can use it perhaps? They also have the ability to create devices which opens up doors to which they have never seen, telford must have a photo graphic memory. They also have flash bangs, a very earth created device, they also have Chinese assault rifles firing in 5.56x45 NATO rounds, they also have American designed respirators.

I could go on.

I watched a S10 SG ep last night. I was struck by the fact that I think having oversight by the USAF on SG1 kept it pretty realistic. I doubt they would have approved of the closet humps.

I think TPTB didn't want their "creativity" infringed on in the new series so they have nothing to do with the military.

BTW the ship is modelled after a flying public toilet in Russia. True story. :cameronanime06:

Pic or STFU! :p

SGU doesn't NEED logic. It's got the amazing relatinoships between Scott and Chloe and Young and TJ! Who the hell cares about actually finding cool stuff on the ship and outside? Relationships aren't logical! You guys just don't get the awesomness of the deep story![/Mallozzi]

God, plz give SGU a submillion premiere. Plz?

And when someone gets left behind...

And when someone gets left behind in a star system (or even an entire galaxy) they are still able to get back. Eli, Scott, and Chloe were trapped in the one galaxy because they could not dial the Destiny because it was out of range. Then, miraculously, they show up and come through the stargate onto the Destiny the very next episode. There was no explanation whatsoever. That was a huge WTF moment for me.

Also, when the Lucian Alliance boarded the Destiny, the U.S. military's tactics (under Young's brilliant leadership) were appalling. Never mind the fact that Young didn't space the Lucian Alliance as they were trapped in the gate room. Why did all of the marines and airmen wait outside the gateroom?! They allowed the Lucian Alliance to get a foothold on the ship! I'm sure a competent military leader would position all marines and airmen in the gate room with guns pointing at the gate ready to unload on the Lucian Alliance as they come through the gate. In SG-1, there's always troopers and at least one fixed machine gun ready in the gate room in case something bad comes through. Heck, the LA were stumbling and jumping through the gate, so at least some of them (maybe all) could have been tackled and captured in that whole thing. And the simple fact that by the end of the finale the LA had just about taken over the ship when the military knew they were coming and had every advantage possible just pissed me off.

And such incompetence is shown by the characters in SGU every week. Somehow, TPTB decided to make the characters incompetent and stupid and thought everyone would like it. I still don't know what they were thinking.

Oh, and I'm going to call complete bullshit on the SGU fans' attempt to explain why the General Hammond didn't fire back during the attack on Icarus Base. They say that the Hammond didn't fire because the ships weapons, particularly the beam cannons, would cause the planet's core to explode. You see, there's this little thing called positioning. The Lucian Alliance ships were approaching and facing the planet. The General Hammond was facing AWAY from the planet towards the Lucian Alliance ships. If the Hammond fired at the Lucian Alliance ships, it would hit the Lucian Alliance ships or miss and the shots would just go off into space. So the Hammond's shots would not hit the planet. The cop-out of the General Hammond not firing because it would cause the planet's core to explode has been completely invalidated.

Wasn't this a joke in the sg-1 200th episode?
