The Christmas Kerfluffle

"Baby it's cold outside" is sexual harassment?
Rudolph promotes bullying?
Charlie Brown is a bigot?

It seems that it's the season of silliness. I get irritated with those who don't want others to enjoy the things mentioned above, If you dislike a song, well hell don't listen to it! Don't tell me I can't. Don't remove the classics off tv either. Crap like this is why I bought Rudolph & the gang on DVD years ago. I also bought the Time Life Treasury of Christmas CDs and thus have several copies of "Baby".

I see this as symptomatic of a larger societal problem - there are those who wish to control things. If they dislike something then NO ONE else can enjoy it! :P Oh bite me! Which is why I buy movies & music I like in hard copy. for example - Disney no long sells their Song of the South movie because of the racist undertones some have seen. I have one of the few VHS copies of it before they pulled them. I also have the soundtrack album- bought when I was a child. I am not a fan of control. If I dislike something I don't watch or listen to it - I don't care what someone else does.

So Baby it's cold outside today......

I think there is a middle ground, and mostly they nailed it. Sure, there are people who celebrate Christmas (Christians and some secular spiritualists). Let them. Let stores decorate if they want, let people put up lights and plastic nativity scenes. To me, these things might as well be Star Wars scenes or other fantasy scenes. I only will put a frown on if the government wants to pay for them or represent them in any official way. This country is NOT a "Christian country", even if the majority of those who practice religion in it are Christians. Same with these movies and Christmas shows. If people want to watch them, let them. If people want to watch Satanic rituals during this time, let them too. I don't see anything in Christmas celebrations that disparages anyone in particular. However, the Song of the South movie, keep that off the shelves and off TV. Why? Because it DOES disparage a very specific group of people in the US (blacks), and it is clearly, unquestionably racist. The "larger societal problem" is the racists who think stuff like Song of the South and Confederate monuments and flags and such are okay. They aren't, and control imposed over those things against the wishes of the racists who support them is welcome and needed. Especially in the South.

Bottom line is that society will decide these things themselves. It appears that citizens are having more of an impact in removing offensive/insensitive elements from our society than government is. Stores that started displaying Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving may pay in the form of Christmas boycotts. A store selling Song of the South could experience boycotts as well. Just sayin!

I also own to Kill a Mocking bird (movie & book), the complete works of Mark Twain, and all of the Harry Potter books. I tend to BUY banned books (unless they are porn :P ) I watch Gone with the Wind occasionally (also have it on VHS) and have even gotten a copy of the Satanic Verses by Salamon Rushdie. (still waiting for a crazy muzzxie to come after me- that's what the Ayatollah threatened those of us who bought it with. :P ) I'm a contrary person I guess. :P

here's a wonderful place to search for classics you haven't read:

OH DEAR WTF?!

I am so sorry...I was not aware that this song was causing an uproar when I responded to this opening post. They have BANNED this song? :) I can't believe it. But after seeing this video, I can understand why young SJW females would see this as chauvinistic. But the song has been done from BOITH angles. The second half of this video (the first is a young Ricardo Montalban), plays the song with the woman as aggressor.

SJW agendas are literally destroying Truth and Reality.

Did any one these people watch the entire movies that the songs were sung in? Are they looking at the whole context, how about the fact that in the chorus, both parties sing " Baby it's cold outside?"

I seem to believe that it was very mutual in a "playing coy" type of way.

Where does the line get drawn anymore, is all flirting now a form of sexual harassment or mental rape? The whole point is you are letting someone know you are interested in them and see what their response would be and take it from there? This is such utter bunk, I don't even have words because every friend I know in real life, thinks this is BS.

If they want to frak up the future so be it, most new music these days suck, but leave the past classics alone!

According to HR, yes it is! Even giving a coworker an affectionate nickname is considered harassment if they complain about it. Its ridiculous! And OMG, it is having an effect on office holiday parties too. Thank goodness I work for a 100-year-old+ company whose values remain unaffected by SJW nonsense. :)

way back when i was in the army, during the clinton years, it was a kind of running joke that all the training we did on Consideration of others, sensitivity towards--everyone, and other socially focused training (which largely replaced training like identifying enemy vehicles and planes and chem bio training) was nothing more then a large social experiment using the military to see if these kinds of things could be used in the general public

it was not the first time the military was used for social and other experimentation

we all laughed, but now, you can see so much of that we did HAS NOW entered into mainstream social practice

back in the 90's the army was mandated to change the meaning of 'sexual harassment" from blatant sexual contact or use of obviously sexually themed language to things like telling a female soldier that her great ability to run fast in PT is due to her "skinny legs" --said in a praising way

also things--among many more- like no longer allowing a male soldier to hold the feet of a female doing sit ups, although female soldiers were still allowed to hold the male's feet-were also added to sexual harassment

they also took away the reporting requirement that the soldier concerned had to address their feeling offended to the offender first (was never required for blatant stuff like actual sexual contact or rape though)

it has all bled over into the mainstream

<<yes this video is an actual army training video>>

Hubby won't ever tell a female co-worker she looks nice. He won't tell her if she has spinach in her teeth, hair a mess, etc...
