If Netflix takes all it's fortunes and starts putting out original series worth their salt, they may actually give mainstream media a run for their money and become the media behemoth they intended to be.
Hulu has announced the debut of its third original series now Netflix wants to jump into the game with a Sorpranos like mob story featuring Sopranos star Steven Van Zandt. Van Zandt plays a mafia boss relocated to Norway as part of his witness protection program. Will he become a Norway gangster or will it be more of a comedic take like Steve Martin’s My Blue Heaven? Netflix is dropping $100 million on the rights to broadcast 26 episodes of this show. That is nearly $4 million an episode and reportedly it was arrange sight unseen. That is a huge commitment to become more HBO like. While HBO jumped into a new tier of success with their original content I am not completely sold that this is the right move. I will hold my judgement until I at least get a chance to watch a few episodes.
