James Gunn is now the creative head of DC

This is a good development. Gunn came to the MCU when it was running down a little (the Ultron fiasco) and with Guardians of the Galaxy directly influenced the look and tone of MCU movies thereafter until Phase 4 (blech!). At DC he already has singlehandedly gotten the DCEU back on track with The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. With him setting the creative tone DC will continue its recovery and improvement.

Gunn seems to be starting to put his program into effect, as DC has cancelled most of its future projects to stop the spending on stuff not representing the direction Zaslav and Gunn want to go in - which features more fun and a much reduced quotient of political pandering of any type.

Besides he's fired Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Jason Momoa, and Gal Gadot! They were all great in Justice League.

He has a very off color sense of humor but is not actually a pedophile as it turns out. Plus he made the off color tweets over a decade ago and apologized about them back then even.

I'm not crazy about him moving on from Cavill but part of the plan seems to be to relaunch the entire DC movie line in a more cohesive fashion so some type of turnover was inevitable.
