Dopamine Detox

So, I have been trying to do a lot of dopamine detox by avoiding a lot of social media content. Slowly and steadily I am switching off almost every social media. I closed down facebook, twitter and instagram. I found out that working in a call centre environment where I felt I was being forced into an internet addict and smart phone addict too. Most of the people I worked for looked like they were burnt out completely.

I am thinking of cutting down Youtube too there is a lot of negativity which does not get me anywhere nor do I find it productive either. What do you guys think? I want to avoid that instant gratification

The YouTube channels that I follow are more positive.

I think you might be on to something. Social media channels do tend to suck up a lot of time and mental energy. I've been steering clear of Twitter for quite a while now, not out of any certain conviction, it just happened. I occasionally check it for a few latest posts, maybe if I have a notification. I'm not on Facebook in the first place. As for Youtube, I've subscribed to a few channels. I pretty much watch every video which comes out on Linus Tech Tips. I also frequently get notifications for "maker videos" which I do like watching. They're positive, people are constructing something out of, well, something else. I like the craftmanship and ingenuity. Pask Makes is a good channel, for example.

There is a reason why anxiety has become such a big problem in the last 5 years more than ever. It's because kids and adults are using social media and computers and glued to them more than ever. Porn addiction has boomed too because it's so freely accessible compared to say the same people who were my age before 2005. I have seen that traffic on Youtube has slowed down ever since they changed algorithm. I mainly use youtube to find the music I love which is purely underground and they are long tracks too. I did feel the initial effects of quitting my job where I had a lot of negative suicidal thoughts but that has been slowly been going away but I have lost my confidence though as a result because when I was working in the call centre environment my heart and mind were pumped with dopamine and there was a high drinking, smoking and gambling rate with the Department I was working. I mainly watch Pianoforever the guy reviews Pianos and keyboard really well and his explanation is really good. Apart from that nothing sparks my interest and Grand Tour episodes or old Top Gear (UK) episodes.

yes..less of all of them and more gatefans! we have zero instant gratification here! :)

but of course you are right..not to mention many of those sites where the instant gratification exists, people also get to make instant posts based on anything from well thought out to just a random "thought vomit" where i a few hours they may not even remember why they even posted what they did

many social media sites started with no accountability for the user, thus people began posting anything about everything. now those sites have had to start censoring/ controlling content because stuff is getting out of hand and causing more divisiveness in many places in the world

and then things like 'blocking'... sites make it far too easy so you can tailor make want and who you want to see posts from. sounds good, BUT in practice all this does is make one 'hooked' to only getting posts that match their viewpoint and then never have their beliefs challenged but only re-enforced. this too is bad for general conversation and the share of ideas. you can never be challenged or learn new things if you block your way into a echochamber

I want to sue the Department for making me turn into an internet addict where I was fed this fantasy. Team Leaders had to put up signs stating "Are you on the right AUX code"?
