How are you comparing those scenes and situations? :) Its like somebody sat down with the Remastered Star Trek: The Original Series, and whizzed through a few episodes and tried to mimic what they remembered. But they only remembered the stupid stuff and never got the overall feel and flow and structure of the various elements of Star Trek. They took parts of canon and misinterpreted what it meant to the overall Trek universe. But mostly they just trashed canon and stuffed wadded tissue in the holes they have punched into it with Discovery. Season 2 will be it's last.

Ah Overdone One you're the one doing exactly what you're describing! So what parts of my reply do you disagree with? How about breaking down my comparisons to singlelady's complaints instead of just painting over the whole answer with a thick brush?

If you thought that comparing Ro Laren to Michael Burnham was a valid comparison, where am I gonna start? Riker's insubordination and Kirk's disregard for the Prime Directive sometimes is supposed to be an excuse for a crew on a Starfleet vessel a hundred years before? Like the real life military, back in the day things were way more regimented and efficient. The focus of Discovery is not about Starfleet or how humans are learning more about the galaxy they live in or the aliens they meet or the places they go. They are out there on a hostile, sneaky dark mission to do nothing at all, but with a lot of drama and feelings and Mary Sue bravery. It isn't Star Trek! The Orville is Star Trek, even though it isn't. Why? Because of the style and flow. If you dress a cat in a dog suit, anyone looking at it will be able to tell it's a cat in a suit because of the way it carries itself. The way it walks, what it focuses on, the little things. This show misses all of that.

Look at singlelady's post and my reply. So far I don't see the distinction you're trying to make in that context!

Au contrairian my good man Discovery found itself in the middle of a war. It seems you watched a different show than me!

I love Orville but it's a different show! It doesn't have a dark theme and they're not in the middle of a war!

Listen Huge Vag, Spock wasn't a "rebel", he was conflicted and confused due to his halfling nature and from being rejected by his Vulcan peers. In short, he wasn't a douche nozzle like the STD version appears to be.

Not as a rule no, Huge Vag. Rebels leading a rebellion/revolution generally aren't conflicted about their motives and goals. They know exactly where they're going and what they're doing with their lives. But the only "rebellious" thing Emo Turd Spock would attempt to do in his life is quietly protest the lack of vegan choices at the cafeteria at the university that he matriculates at (on mommy and daddy's dime no less).

But that seems quite logical and you can't get more Vulcan than that! That's totally what Spock's upbringing was about!

I like the maturity of TNG which tackles all the mature issues of humanity and the adventure aspect of voyager.

Ok I can see your point of view but alot of what you complained about was present in all the star trek shows except maybe the shaky cam.

To give an example of something I don't agree on. I don't like the fact that this thread is named "Star Trek Discovery sucks". It should just be named "Star Trek Discovery". Whether or not people think it sucks will become apparent from their posts in the thread. The very fact that the thread is named this way sort of puts me off posting in it because I feel that when I do it associates me with having the opinion that the show sucks. Which I don't. I just don't think it's good, but it doesn't totally suck. Actually I'm still pretty much on the fence about it, but there are various things about the show that I certainly don't like.

I gave the show a huge chance because I really love ST so much!

My main complaints would have to be the amount and length of the exaggerated Klingon spoken in the show is head-ache inducing.
The nipple clamped magic alien/crew member engine.
Michael is not a very likable character.

The things I liked about the show would be the twists at the end of the season in the new universe and getting the " Captain" back.
A touch more levity and less dire, I want to slit my wrists look throughout most eps in the very end.

Who knows what will happen next season? I will watch it again and hope the writers listened to the ST fans and not the critics that raved about the show. It needs to lighten up a bit when facing near death, and please cut back on the Klingon subtitles.
