The Dark Sides of Steve Jobs

Okay, the God of Apple has been laid to rest. Who was he REALLY? What people dont get is that as much of a marketing guy he was, word has it he was an arrogant, credit-stealing asshole. This coming from his own camp:

EXCERPTS:

1. Copy Innovation

Steve said that he was ready to go “thermonuclear” war on Android, an operating system he saw as a “stolen product.” Truth be discussed, what did Android really copy from iOS? The interface and the OS architecture are quiet different from each other. Its like comparing Mac OS to Linux, both have similar underlying Unix, everything else is different: Kernel, framework, libraries, JVM vs. Native framework, UI and Touch interfaces. Even if some of it is similar, Android was developed independently by a startup named Android under supervision of Andy Rubin. It was later acquired by Google and modified for good.

For a moment, lets assume Android was a copy. Was Macintosh not a copy of Xerox’s OS ? Steve shamelessly copied each aspect of Xerox’s User Interface and called it Mac OS. Steve J. agrees he copied, why in the world is he so furious about Android copying iOS?

2. Steal the Credit, and never be humble

Steve Jobs was famous for stealing the credit of his subordinates. Apple’s famous designer, Jonathan Ive, was frustrated because Steve was constantly taking credit for his ideas. It was a recurring problem, with incredibly talented executives complaining that Jobs took all the credit for Apple’s game-changing innovations. “I pay maniacal attention to where an idea comes from, and I even keep notebooks filled with my ideas,” Ive said. “So it hurts when he takes credit for one of my designs.”

Perhaps the worst story surrounds Daniel Kottke, who was there with Jobs at Reed College, travelled with him in India, and was one of the first Apple employees in the garage. But when Apple went public, Jobs refused to give him any shares because of his technical status within the company – despite the protests of other high-ranking employees.

Kottke was unfortunately subdued and didn’t push – until it became too much. “And at one point, [Kottke] tries to go to Steve and just starts crying,” Isaacson told 60 Minutes. “But Steve can be very cold about these things. Finally, one of the engineers at Apple said, you know, ‘We have to take care of your buddy Daniel. I’ll give him some stock, if you match it or whatever.’ And Jobs says, ‘Yeah, I’ll match it. I’ll give zero, you give zero.’”

I was amazed to hear that the main reason why Jobs did not want Flash on his precious iPhone is because he did not want people to be able to watch PORN! The Safari browser on the iPad and iPhone do not support Flash and they never will. That is a big deal! Here is a visual meaning of what that is saying:

. Im not just a "Microsoft is better than Apple" sorta guy, because there are things I like about certain Apple products, but you could consider me an anti-Apple guy. I only recommend Apple products to people who have no clue about computers but tend to tinker around anyway. Such people cannot mess up a Mac or an iPhone or an iPad. But to me its like selling somebody an adult bicycle with training wheels permanently attached to it. The fact is that Steve Jobs created a draconian Apple culture rife with backstabbing, stealing ideas, dirty underhanded tricks and outright GREED. Its products say to professional geeks:

"I'm not that computer savvy. I bought this Mac to make it look like I know how to use a computer".

In reality, when you watch a Mac user from afar (say, in a Starbucks or other cafe-like environs), you will NEVER see actual applications being used. You will see Facebook, email, and perhaps iTunes minimized and nothing else. Most Mac users/owners use them like simple netbooks. The only people they are impressing are the mainstreamers who have very old Windows computers or are minimal users who bought a cheap Windows laptop for about $300, and use it in a similar netbook fashion. I have even noticed Mac "clusters" which form in Starbucks where all the people in that area have Macs whilst other groups form around "regular" laptops. WTH?

But back to Steve....I am not at all surprised to hear this stuff. Perhaps somebody will make a movie? :)

Good! That would work....but he would have to lose some weight. Despite his early demise, Steve still looked like he was in decent shape. Jack would do a great Jobs! Here is some video of Steve at the opening of the 5th Avenue Apple store in New York. I see an a-hole in the video....the guy he is talking to is in a wheelchair. This is the caption on the YouTube video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KscYtJH988E

this was taken at the grand opening of the 5th avenue apple store in new york city. a man in a wheelchair came up to steve jobs and asked for his autograph. jobs proceeded to tell him "no. sign it yourself" in an arrogant way. then when the man asked again jobs says "o, now lay on the guilt. start crying". finally the man told him that he had spent 25 hours on an airplane to get there and jobs caved. after signing he told the man to "go see the rest of the store". what the man had jobs sign was an original copy of a macworld issue with steve jobs on the cover debuting the original macintosh.

I think a great deal of the Apple crowd would care. Their devotion to their Apple goods is as much for Jobs as the machines themselves. To them, he is the innovator and the bringer of new things to the masses. Him, the man himself...not just Apple Computer. Perhaps the recent banning of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia by Apple filing an infringement lawsuit (which they know they will lose but want to protract it to keep the far better Galaxy Tab off the market and out of competition), is part of the legacy? Jobs did many great thing. He also did many not so great things but until now, nobody else heard much about it.

Good point....but it WAS for a store opening. :) TBH, I dont think Jobs was signing any autographs that day and this guy could have pulled the sympathy card to get to Jobs for that autograph, knowing full well that nobody else there was getting one. Dont know the full details. But I am really shocked to be hearing some of this stuff. I already knew some of the other stuff that happened with Gates and others. Its just a topic! :)

I'm not being "pissy" bro, I just find this sorta funny. A dude dies and his "dirty knickers" (well, hopefully his wife/mistresses knickers :P) come out and peeps are shocked??
In *your particular case* I find it more amusing because you hate advertising, yet here you are doing free adverts for the "anti apple crowd" (even if you did not intend it that way!!)

What can I say, I have an Ironic sense of Irony!!!!
