The 100 on CW

As I have only seen the first three shows I will refrain from commenting on who dies and who doesn't die. In the later shows they filmed a lot on our local streets so I am thinking that the virtual world will be king during the end of the season.

In a virtual world do people ever die?

i guess in a "pure" vr world they wouldn't have to, but in the scenario in 100, the chip that makes the VR possible is swallowed by the person, it then attaches to the CNS making it "one" with the person--so I would think the VR avatar would die when the biological person would-but it seems this is not the case

now that you have mentioned this, then Lexa and every previous "Commander"-who all bore the chip-should all have avatars in a VR world somewhere, yes? Just not ALIE 1's city of light

this 'commander chip(which the grounder society calls the soul)' should also have made every commander incredibly "plugged in" and therefore smarter and far more able then any educated person from the stations. This because they are in synch with the embedded ALIE 2 AI on their CNS. I wonder if this will come up?

After catching up on the 100 or the 38, 37, 36, if you must, I got the impression that someone crashed through Aldos Huxley's doors of perception and took one heaping handful of Soma all at one time.

Don't know where they are going with this one? The “black blood” or black oil has been hinted at for several shows. So, the Commander talks with all the previous commanders while she takes her nappy-poos. Bekka, or is it Becca, the computer specialist comes back down to earth and maybe ends up as the first Commander? Interesting twist just the same.

Do I dare say it, that this has a web game feel to this situation where everyone gets to “spawn” on a different level after their death.

It takes a long LOST writer, JAVIER GRILLO-MARXUACH, to give us a show filled with “flash backs”, where the writers of this show try and set up the world where the City of Lights is located. Otan, the shortly dead brother of Emori, ends up in the City of Lights with nary a blemish even though in one reality he hides his various disfigurements.

Then they introduce the city of Pol**is. All this time I thought I heard the words Polis, but with their Australian accents I thought they were mentioning Polaris. Lo and behold though we actually are introduced to the significance of the word Polaris, not the missile, nor the North Star, but something totally different.

With the re-upping of The 100 for another season I think I will have to clean out my ears and pay a little more attention to what this show wants to tell us.

The show is definitely creating some buzz, which is making me curious to watch it...just a bit. :)

YES!!

definitely watch it! it is worth it

it starts off as more future fiction/JEREMIAH type of stuff ,but then-in this season, starts to blend in more sci fi as in the use of AI's and the like

Just go into it HEEDING MY WARNING WEARY TV TRAVELER!

Know it is about older teens/young adults (though there are plenty of grown ups who are NOT there just to be vilified or made fun of ala DISNEY channel shows) going into it so you do not get distracted off topic by the shipping/psuedo shipping going on

--it is on a network, BTW, where their targeted demo is the young adult,so, bear that in mind!!

they haven't shown that every previous commander back to Becca has an avatar in some VR world, but, they defi imply it. With the implantation of the ALIE 2 chip in each cdr (by rite of succession,) the AI could have defi made a avatar of each and kept it 'alive' in VR while beginning anew interaction with each new cdr

it is defi implied through the use of ALIE 1's City of Light VR and its keeping of avatars

also, i like the idea of how each commander--her and her ppl, the grounders, seeming so barbaric and brutal, uneducated and barely survuvng-just may be the most intelligent person alive due to their CNS implant of ALIE 2. Just how much info and tech could they access through this arrangement?

Remember Becca said that her creation of ALIE 2 was to help the survivors (on the Ark) eventually survive on earth after a return there. so did she develop ALIE 2 with a way of conveying all human knowledge to whoever is implanted with it?

I am hoping they go there-I think it would be a great story line--the grounders having more access to info and potential tech development then any survivor in Skaicru (skycrew--arc survivors) -a reversal of perceptions

...

“ ... There are things known and there are things unknown, and in between are the doors of perception...”

Aldous Huxley – possibly around 1954

I threw in that above picture because that “screen cap” of that long and slender building reminds me of the Lighthouse of Pharos that once stood outside the harbour of Alexandria, where, according to tradition, there once stood this huge library containing manuscripts that were purported to be more than 64,000 years of age.

If we stay outside the box are the writers hinting to us that the interface planted in the back of all Commanders is used to connect to some sort of “library sized” pool of information? Thus the younger and younger Commanders have no need for experience as they know what they know and do not need to know anything else.

"Thus the younger and younger Commanders have no need for experience as they know what they know and do not need to know anything else."

that is what i am wondering as well

thinking back-the grounders in S1 E1 didn't seem all that surprised to encounter the kids from the ark--like they were told who they were and that someday they would be coming

Becca would have known and therefore programmed her AI with the knowledge that the long term goal of the Ark population was to go back to the surface, so, she may have gifted the chip to the grounders once she found them and saw that a large enough population still existed that would allow for a viable regeneration of non Ark humans

A season 4 has already been ordered, so how many characters out of the original "100" will be left to tell their tales?

The word “Incongrous” comes to mind when I think about the about face when it comes to the decisions that some of the characters have made during this last season.

On “Bellamy” alone I could probably come up with a five page dissertation on what stupid things our teen-aged leader has delivered to the viewers this year. Being totally lazy I will pass on that idea.

In my opinion, brilliant as I am, the Pike/ Hannah conundrum is totally crap. In no shape or form would a teacher believe that a tiny population could survive an all out war with a group of seemingly blood thirsty natives.

It is comforting to see that in the beginning “Hannah” could not recognize her son, and that Pike the teacher could not even recognize his good friend “Kane”. Through the season the only person who has stayed true to her character is “Clarke”, as she is still filled with wander-lust, and not to mention her lust for the long-legged beauties of the show.

As for “Raven” I am hoping the writers are not building her up to only give us a big let down during the last two shows of this season.

So, as the middle shows are giving us more of a sci-fi slant, and everyone is getting back to their normal angst. This would be as good as any place to turn my typing fingers off and leave my nattering for another day.

Oh man, I am really liking this show a lot! I have been binge watching it on Kodi, and this may be the first mostly teen character sci-drama I actually like. This one actually would NOT work if there were adults on the ground with the teens. Their angst actually works to drive the new "culture" they are forming as Grounders. Adults in the mix would take away the whole "coming of age" thing going on with the Grounder group. And there are mostly all adults on the Ark, and they have their drama going on. It's a nice balance of characters and locales and story arcs.

Annnnnd....(gasp)....it's actual science fiction! The real thing. Lots of drama in it, but it still qualifies, using the classic definition. Im just finishing up Season 1, and there are two more to go. :)

The one thing they did that is sort of nonsensical is creating the whole "lost communication" thing with the Ark. They should have EXTREMELY fine telescopes on that thing. They should be able to literally see them walking in the forest and making fires at night. Even through clouds and in the dark. We can already do that today so, whats up with that? I will forgive it, since they seem to have some tech on the Ark. :)

So, just back from its mid season break and still entertaining

(of course, as I said for starters--you HAVE to go into it knowing it is full of young adults and latent teen angst and shipping---once you accept that and put it to the flank, it is a pretty good show)

I liked how the previews for the last ep showed some kind of "demony" thing in the woods---come to find out, it is just a gorilla from the left overs of a zoo (D.C's? Baltimore's?)

Silly and simple I know, but it was clever and far more interesting then some outlandish "star child with blowing hair" or some quirky alien things with more endless brow ridges (and possessing high tech but walk around naked!) or other drivel that the copy cat TPTB's of other shows have been doing

yes, the 100 is meant for a younger audience, but it IS still a good sci fi/future fiction show

THIS. :) Like you said, once you accept it for what it is, you see that it is actually a well crafted show. They managed to give everybody a little something to like about it. Or, a lot of variety (depending on your viewpoint). Lots of hard science as well as deep interpersonal drama can be explored in this show. Lots of social commentary and proto-politics as they would form in a newly-established nation of refugees. It manages to do the post-apocalyptic thing in a more logical fashion.

I did not think I would like it as much as I do, but it's good!

they rely on the tracking bracelets the kids are wearing

and the ark was cobbled together from various diff orbiting platforms from diff nations/corporations (you'll see that in s3) so, each station was made for an orbital reason--research, etc. there were not put in space to monitor the ground

but prob its just that tptb's didn't want that in the story

remind me-how did s1 end? you will see more adult participation shortly and it is balanced well. some back and forth adult control vs teen angst but not too much=tolerable

sorry about the posts i had been putting up with spoiler type info.
didn't bother to give warnings because i honestly thought no one else here would like the show!

I'm still in season one, but still the telescope thing makes no sense. Most every satellite sent up had a purpose, and mostly that porpose was for communication or observation. It would seem of utmost importance to have telescopes to observe weather, to monitor other nations and vegetation, to detect animal migrations and to just flat out spy on people. There would have been a space telescope up there, which would have been able to be pointed at earth.

ok yeah, sat's, i thought you meant the space stations themselves--i guess the tptb's just didn't consider to use sats like spy sats, for monitoring the kids. again, you'll see later why they have tracking bands instead (for the purpose of the story)

we get a few brief descriptions of why they were put up by countries and companies; to relieve population stress, for research and for industrial reasons

you will also see later that several of the stations are armed with station defenses/offensive capabilities in addition to their having small arms and survival supplies

Im halfway through season 2, and the Ark has come to the ground permanently. We are well into the drama going on with the fallen station base and the grounders and Reapers. I still like this show a lot and they don't get boring.
