Star Trek Beyond: FIRST TRAILER

I just had a womderful thought. :) If Star Trek Beyond proves to be a mediocre showing. there might not be that fourth film. The wonderful thought was that SO WHAT! If it fails to be what they expect (it wont outright fail because it's the 50th Anniversary), they might not go with the fourth movie, and the only new Star Trek will be the (hopefully) real one on TV over at CBS All Access. The movies could get a long break, unless the TV show proves to be huge and then Paramount could reboot it again.

The reason why jj abandoned star trek was because he was committed to finishing off star wars. I am pretty sure he will now fit in star trek 4 eventually....

The TV series could easily kill the movie timeline. :) I really think that the NuTrek timeline is an entirely different thing from Star Trek. In that universe, the only ship Starfleet has and the only people from earth in space are the USS Enterprise and it's crew. Aliens just show up in the Alpha Quadrant out of nowhere whom we have never seen, and they can all talk to each other without a translator. Remember in the 2009 movie when Uhura said she intercepted the Klingon transmissions and that she spoke all the dialects? That means there is no translator. How do the aliens talk to each other without a translator? JJ does not get the science at all and those who like the movies don't care about the science.

Hopefully, the TV show will have the science and feel like Star Trek. I think it will because of the new writers they have brought onboard, and if it does then the movie Trek will seem even more isolated. I am hopeful!

Apparently Memory Alpha was also involved in the scripting of Star Trek Beyond:

Weirder and weirder. After we had Abrams apologizing about Into Darkness and Lin specifically stating they were not using a lot of the stuff Abrams added, we get the schizoid trailer. Then we get this little announcement and apparently there is also a Lin interview (per TrekMovie and other places):

The messaging on this film is all over the place. One wonders what it will ultimately be like.
