In any event, back to the use of artificially created sapphire as a display material.

Not only is it virtually indestructible but it has another capability - power generation....

The article is not fully descriptive but the upside is sapphire displays using GTs process (and right now they are the only ones with this process) can be designed to charge the device whenever outside light is hitting the photovoltaic layer. So not only are we talking a super hard to break display but one that makes the device have longer "battery" life.
