Here's Robert Carlyle in an interview with "With Kids" where he talks about his career and briefly Once Upon A Time, a new pilot for ABC in which he is playing Rumplestiltskin. He starts talking about the show at about 3:20 seconds in.

THANK YOU for posting this!

I am so glad you posted this! I think many Americans need to see this guy play something where he gets to smile and laugh. He seems like a nice guy, and his facial expressions are those of a happy person and not an edgy, stressed out person. :) I first saw him at length as Begbie in Trainspotting, The next time seeing him at length was in SGU, and he rarely smiled or laughed. And he looks much better showered and shaved than he did in SGU!

I wonder what his next project is?

I guess that he's a real nice and happy guy in RL but he probably likes playing these grouchy and often slighly psychotic characters because he finds it more fun and challenging to play a character so different from himself.

As for his next project, it'll probably be Once Upon A Time if it gets picked up, otherwise it could be anything. But this show actually sounds like pretty interesting and Jennifer Morrison is in it, which is a big plus.

I wonder if he'd been picked for Doctor Who if he'd been a happy and psychotic character, because I don't think he's done many of those roles. That approach certainly would've added something to SGU and would've been a nice role reversal- the older guy who's been through terrible stuff being an optimistic guy while the younger nerd is basically a cynic with little hope for the future. Could've been a decent arc, but the writers wouldn't have done it or executed it well.

Carlyle playing Rumplestiltskin would be fascinating to see. What really great interviews, too. Thanks for sharing those!
